Multiple sources tell CelticsBlog that the Celtics and Magic had discussed an Ibaka deal, but the Celtics were not willing to include Terry Rozier. The Celtics are not interested in surrendering assets of value, including first-round picks and prospects like Rozier, for short-term acquisitions that do not clearly put them over the top for title contention, per sources. The Raptors became motivated to go all in after the Love news, as some around the NBA believe he may not make it back this year per sources.

Awaits mass outrage from Celtics fans on The Coli.

Smart decision. Only use your picks or trade your assets if you getting Boogie Cousins, Butler, Griffin or Anthony. Even then, the deal gotta make sense. I'd take Tyson Chandler if we could get him for a 2018 pick and a James Young

Don't worry, no one is trading a player that will vault us to title contention for Rozier :mjlol:

I get what you're saying but Chandler's been past his sell-by date.

Only reason I say Chandler is because I feel we need a defensive vet on the team and Chandler helps our rebounding issues. I dont think it would take much to get someone like him since hes past his prime. Hes still almost averaging a double double

Is it remotely realistic at this point to believe that we are going to make a big trade in the coming weeks?? If we could get a serviceable big that can rebound (Bogut, Chandler) and get PG13 or Butler man we would be a problem.

So where does this leave the Celtics?

While they are playing great basketball right now, they could benefit from having one more rebounding/defensive frontcourt specialist to the mix.

But adding such a player likely means trading away a couple of players from the current roster, which has been successful despite an assortment of key players being out with injuries and illnesses all season.

And that's what makes this trading season trickier than most for Danny Ainge, Boston's president of basketball operations.

He's always got an eye out for finding talent to strengthen his roster. But he also understands the importance and value of chemistry and its role in a team being successful.

Blakely: Celtics weren't really in running for Ibaka . . . but do they need him?

Honestly, I still favor us to finish ahead of Toronto in the standings, even with their addition of Ibaka.:manny:

It will take much to get Tyson Chandler. He will eat much cap space and kill the team's flexibility to sign a max free agent in the off season. I'd rather get Ibaka even for a rental. His contract is off the books in the next season and we will have his bird rights. He is also perfect for Steven's system. He can block shots, rebound, hit 3's and defend the perimeter.

I've said for week I don't see a deal coming at the deadline. I would like to be wrong about that.

I think if anything goes down we end up with one of the Chicago bigs, either Gibson or Lopez

Worth noting that Ainge went after Lopez in free agency back in 2015, so there's known interest

FYI, the Cs haven't traded for a player since 2014.

He traded for David Lee in 2015

And also it's not like he's been standing pat since then, but either he doesn't want what teams are offering (Obviously today with Ibaka) or they don't want he's offering (Winslow)
