Is there any one super hero more popular than Spider-Man at this point?

I honestly dont think gen z cares about batman. There hasn’t been a great batman movie since The Dark Knight which is already 14 years old.

The animated series was peak 90’s/early 00’s.

Even the arkham games were popular over 10 years ago already.
This is one of the most bizarre posts ever.

I don’t care for the Stan wars, but you could have said this for Gen X when Batman dropped in 1988 as the only thing that generation has to refer was that campy TV show.

People love Batman. Superman is who your post best reflects.

I’m not saying Batman is irrelevant I just think he doesn’t hit every demo the same way Spider-Man does.

he’s still number 2.

but you gotta think of the themes around Spider-Man. He’s younger, he had real people issues, his villains are scientist not straight up lunatics.

also looks at the colors bright red and blue not nighttime with black cowls and capes in shadows.

Spider-Man is relateable and his powers are cooler

Yeah, Spider-Man has a wider appeal but Batman has a dedicated and really big fan base. Spideys are less fanatical.

I probably would’ve agreed with this at one point, but I don’t know now. That “Truth, Justice, and American Way” thing doesn’t play the same way now…especially with people that aren’t white. He may be the blueprint still…but as far as mass appeal…I don’t know.

It’s why it’s laughable that people tried making the argument that the MCU doesn’t need Spiderman :mjlol:

Two things can be true, the MCU didn't NEED Spiderman, and when done right Spiderman can make a ton of money.

Don't forget people were done with Spiderman after that 2nd Sony joint and Marvel decided to push Iron Man hard to get folks back into trusting them shyts.

There is a difference between well known and well liked. Superman is the most known superhero worldwide, but in terms of being likable he has fallen way behind in the last few decades. I would say even Cap has more fans now than Supes. It's no shock that WB has no idea what to do with him and has no real care.

People in this age are more into relatable, flawed characters. Superman is seemingly(on the surface) too powerful, perfect, and represents an ideal most people can't or don't care to reach.

Spiderman and Batman will always be a level above anything else. A good Superman and Wolverine are right behind them.

the character appeals to people globally on paper - an alien who was raised as a human (people can resonate with not fitting in/not belonging), moral compass of humanity while withholding his own powers, etc ... of course when they Americanize the character with nationalistic propaganda it doesnt hit the same

but i think his symbol/iconography alone puts the character up there (in terms of mass appeal), there are people of all races and walks of life around the world that recognizes it, people have it tatted or have it as a sticker/keychain etc, casuals still wear merch or shirts with the symbol... there are many parts of the 3rd world where you see street art and graffiti of the "S" symbol ... i don't think any other comic book character iconography has the same presence

unfortunately his stories just aren't usually as compelling or written well compared to spiderman & batman, his powerset makes it harder for him to be relatable too

this is exactly why i said i guess people are just talking about movies. (i don't want to get into it here) but as bad and repetitive as i think the spiderman/batman movies are, superman has been given dogshyt to work with in movies. But as a whole in society superman is still the most popular hero. I don't know how this is even a question.
