Is there any one super hero more popular than Spider-Man at this point?

This is one of the most bizarre posts ever.

I don’t care for the Stan wars, but you could have said this for Gen X when Batman dropped in 1988 as the only thing that generation has to refer was that campy TV show.

People love Batman. Superman is who your post best reflects.

Gen X loves the '88 Batman movie but we wasn't the main ones going to see it. Most of us were pre-teens in '88.

Baby boomers (people in their late 20's-40's) that grew up watching the old 60's show did influence the popularity of that movie.

Fred... that was 2005. He was discussing the sequels. Read the date on his post. Fact is the sequel was one of the 1st films to ever go over a billion.
Oh man I dunno why but I seen 2008 as 2005. I was like "what is dude talking about?" :mjlol:

Anyway, as far as the thread, Spider-Man never hit $1 billion (and this won't even just be $1 billion, that's one week) until Marvel took over. Amy Pascal admitted Sony had no idea what to do with the character, which is why the deal happened in the first place.

I say all that to say this....in the rights hands any of these super heroes (especially ones on the tier of a Batman or Spider-Man) can hit $1 billion if they are handled properly. I'm willing to bet the next Dr. Strange movie touches $1 billion, too. Although a lot of these movies (like "No Way Home" and "Multiverse Of Madness") are kinda using a cheat code because they aren't standalone movies. Not really. They all have a fukk ton of characters in them.

Thats what makes them good. Just like cross over comic series. It’s fun to see superhero’s within the context of a universe of other super powered people. Toby and Andrew kind of being like “whats the avengers” had me like….:mjcry:

Thats why everyone was so hyped for batman vs Superman. People love justice league unlimited and all those cross over episodes. I even remember when i was younger how hype i got when the x-men animated series crossed over into spider-man series.

Thats the future

No, I agree. I think all the cross over stuff is dope as hell.
But for the purposes of determining things like "most popular super hero"....it's kinda :patrice:when the movie has multiple heroes and villains in it.

There’s not really any real way to measure popularity, spider-man is in movies with other characters, those movies do billions, batman is in movies with other characters, they do ok but get critically panned. Then you got stuff like bat girl, Titans, Gotham, suicide squad where he makes appearances and it doesn’t really move a needle.

Joker was a good movie, but it was basically a Martin Scorsese movie that just happened to star one portrayal of the joker. They could have taken joker out that movie completely and nothing would have changed.

Yeah Spider-Man is in a class all by himself right now. Batman is up there but the recent movies been so trash that I think he took a hit with a lot of the younger audience. Yeah Joker was great and did numbers but that was targeted to adults, people who grew up on the character.

Maybe DC gets their shyt together with the next Batman film. I’m tired of seeing their shyt get rebooted over and over again.

Only because of inflation and worldwide expansion. The Raimi films adjusted for inflation dwarf the MCU ones domestic by a wide margin.

Venom just did close to $900M under the Sony banner as well.. that wasn't exactly a "great" movie by most metrics. Spider-Man with inflation is almost guaranteed these days as long as there's no pandemic restrictions.

Sure.. it sounds good that the MCU "saved the character" or whatever but it's nonsense.

:unimpressed:Last 2 Batmans did a billi each. Spiderman movies came out a year before one and the same year as the other.

I’m ready for the Matt Reeves batman but i do feel fatigued with the reboots. Thats why I’m enjoying the MCU because they are sticking with one interpretation of a character forever now. No more watching uncle Ben die over and over again.

DC needs to give their other characters better treatment. Last Wonder Woman movie was honestly one of the worst super hero movies I’ve ever watched

To add to my earlier post.. @hex the 1st Sony "MCU" Spider-Man Homecoming did nearly $900M. The two Garfield movies both went over $700M. You adjust those two for inflation and the box office revenue compared to Homecoming is virtually identical + there's also ww theater expansion to factor.

The 3rd Spider-Man No Way Home is heavily reliant on the Sony universe based characters.

There's nothing to go on that says there was a significant bump because of MCU. The character is just globally loved no matter what..

You also gotta remember that movies weren’t often crossing 1B in the box office when the original spider-man trilogy came out. It was titanic and maybe a couple other movies.

Spider-man at the time was breaking record after record when it came out, it was unprecedented at the time
