if you have a master degree in something... shouldn't one be bright enough and savvy enough to start a business?

Education is an asset that few know how to flip.

You really think most kids fresh out of college with 50K in debt are thinking of what business they should start up? They are trying to survive before those monthly payments start coming soon

actually, most employers don't even ask for the fukking GPA anymore. I have never been asked. Its mostly connections after you graduate.

And knowing how to interview! You can be smart as fukk and have the social IQ and interviewing skills of a Peanut.

Its not hard to get into a lot of master's programs. You do half decent on the GRE, have a half decent GPA, you can get into a LOT of schools. Plus there are masters in pretty much anything.

And in any case, starting up a business isn't guaranteed income. Most businesses fail.

I am not saying all employers do, but I have run into some, that, because I have no real work experience, look harder at my GPA.

On the flip side, I have gotten interviews where my gpa was not a concern, but my actual skills (what i had worked with during my college tenure) was.

I am just pointing out the 3 things Ive seen that help in the job hunt. But if i had to pick one that i could absolutely have more of, it would be more connections. Which is something I am building right now.

I have a Master's degree in Aerospace Engineering. I sure wouldn't be doing fine without it.

So college isn't worth it? I hope you always make sure to visit a non-college educated doctor when you get sick.

College is definitely overpriced and these student loans are a problem, but the BIGGER problem, IMO, is lack of jobs. There just aren't enough decent jobs for college grads in this economy, so a lot of people with Bachelors' Degrees (and sometimes higher) that are forced to take bullshyt jobs.

I don't advocate useless majors, but let's be reality, you shouldn't HAVE to major in engineering just to have a shot at getting a job.

The problem is most college students go through college the same way the went through high school. With out no sense of purpose. Thinking they will automatically be in some type of situation when they finish. People do go on to start businesses not only after they finish college but while they're still I'm school.

But again college isn't for people that don't know what they really want to do. It's an investment. A long term investment. Just because there are a lot of people that make bad investments don't mean it's bad to invest.

There's no such thing as a bullsh*t degree....but understand that when you pick a major, not all majors are in demand. The sooner you accept that, the better your future will be.

It sucks because then it feels like you gotta pick a major based on it's earning potential instead of what you want and like but that's the state of the country.

Exactly...

Quit complaining, you obviously majored in something you had an interest in.

The economy is in the tank, people from all sides are hurting except one(1%).

You have recent college graduates who, can't find jobs.

You have people who have worked 20+ years at a company, being laid off
to hire a younger person(cheaper salary + less risky because of health).

You have college graduates working lower tier jobs, that don't even require a middle school education.

The discussion of degrees would be useless, if people weren't hurting for jobs. A few years ago, it didn't matter if you majored in Art History or not.

You have to see the problem for what it is....

Senate blocks Obama's jobs bill - Los Angeles Times

This bill would have been like the modern replica of what FDR did to get the U.S. of the Depression(THE NEW DEAL). Building bridges, roads, infrastructures etcs.

The point is, you need for the economy to stimulate itself, cutting left and right doesn't help anything........
