And the coli answer to everything is just start your own business...make your own app. Its that easy huh? Guess what probably 95% of the population no matter what race doesnt have what it takes to run a succesful business especially from the ground up. In fact its a great way to end up way deeper in the hole than where you started. At the end of the day tha vast majority are soldiers not generals...

Yes that is the answer to employment discrimination for black people. Until black men get off their asses and build institutions like we used to do, black people in all industries will have to face racism when begging white people for jobs. Not just in technology, in business, law, finance, marketing, education, and any other industry you can think of.

Black entrepreneurship is the only solution to these problems. No it's not easy, but we don't have a choice. White people will not hire black people, so unless we create the jobs to hire ourselves, our true unemployment rate will always remain in the 20-30% range.

so to act like this isnt an issue worth discussing because you can just "do your own thing" is stupid as hell.

Do your own thing isn't stupid as hell. It's the only solution. The reason why white unemployment is so low is because white people start companies and hire white people. The reason why black unemployment is so high is because 1) whites do not want to hire blacks and 2) blacks have not created enough jobs to employ the masses of black people. We want to keep ignoring this fact because like you said asking for a job is easy, creating a job is more difficult.

:myman:

That's been my outlook on things. I'm not going to let racism stop me from getting what I want in life. So far this year I have tuned out a lot of the bullshyt around me and I have been more focused than I have ever been.
Same...

I've already set out to achieve goals and accomplished 59% of what I wanted to do...
the rest, is all up to how hard I grind at the end of the day and that's a daily habit.

THis is why you are one of my favorite posters.

I just aspired to go after what I wanted in life now...fukk begging da white man for a job...they get off on not hiring us and throwing our applications in the trash.

Why do I want to work for someone who hates me?
Why do I want to work for anybody besides myself?

I'm already starting to get the last laugh honestly...

Breh, a lot of these just refuse to go out and be self determined. nikkas will make all types of excuses to not work for themselves. A black couple created the blog BlackandMarriedWithKids.com | The Web’s Most Popular Destination for Guidance on African American Marriage and Parenting, they're making multiple seven figures a year off of that site. Another black man owns Wet Shave Club. He's doing six figures a month in revenue.

There's a million and one ways to make paper on the internet with relatively little investment, but the shyt just ain't priority for most cats.

Before I was sidetracked :sas2: I wanted to say that we as a group have the capability to do anything we put our minds to. We need to get off that plantation mentality and start getting on that Steve Jobs mentality.

Most of you guys are missing the point.
There aren't many Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics degree Black people in general.

Most kids who get into computers and the tech field start in their youth, generally through parents. How many Black people do you have parents that did during the 70s, 80s, and 90s? I know one, and her mother was a Doctor who also worked with NASA.

You get Black people to major in any of those fields, you'll see more of us.
It's literally that easy.

Real Talk this set me up for success. My pops bought the house a computer in like 1998 or 97, literally nobody in the house used this but me, I was in 3rd grade and pretty much taught myself how to troubleshoot desktops, printers, fix virus issues etc. Literally in middle school I knew exactly what I wanted to go to college for and I did it, graduated on time with honors and now work in IT while pursuing my masters. That said my father was an educated man, and him doing that set me years ahead of all of my peers because by the time they got computers in the early 2000s they were more focused on black planet and stuff, but naturally I had a skill for troubleshooting and problem solving.

One thing I will say is STEM is one of those areas that you cant force someone to get into as it takes a certain mind set. Most of these Asian brehs and brehettes you see in STEM fields had insanely strict parents who were on some if you dont do this you are a disgrace to your family steeze, culturally black people dont do act like this outside of maybe Nigerians. I`m not saying this is a good or bad thing, because at the end of the day you have to do what fulfills you in life but we also have to draw the line in doing stuff that wastes time and does not benefit our communities.

You still haven't said what your background in technology is?

And since you brought up getting off the plantation, what businesses do you own and how many black people have you employed? Or are you gonna dodge that question too :mjpls:?

It's becoming very obvious that this is the case.

With the oscars, gentrification, cultural appropriation, white washing of history, etc.

Black folks really need to get it through their heads that their plans do not include us. And build our own industries and economies.

:patrice:

You saying that like those things are new

That has always been the case

This didn't start happening, the problem is people thought racism was over because it isn't overt

So let me get this straight, you're in a thread about technology and entrepreneurship when you don't work in technology and you've never been an entrepreneur :dahell:?

You're talking about black people need to leave the plantation and you've never even employed a black person before :jbhmm:?

Why are you in here giving advice breh :what:?

Matter fact hit up the IT career thread we got popping in HL. Hopefully you'll learn something :mjpls:

I've met black people who have been turned down at interviews with the "not a good fit" reasoning.

The field is dominated by men who were nerds to even cacs, so of course they don't feel comfortable around blacks.

Not too long ago only geeks went in that field for the most part. Thirty years layer they hold all the keys and still have their bias. If you're none threatening as a black guy you can be that token.

I've walked in interviews and got told to my face "Wait you're bdizzle :mindblown: :dahell:"

White supremacy still exists in technology in case anyone thought otherwise.

I know a lot of black people who don't believe racism is an issue. It's why you got c00ns like Steven A Smith telling black students that racism doesn't exist anymore :scust:

This thread makes me sad....

I just got a promotion to Sr. Systems Engineer (formerly network engineer) a couple of weeks ago and was forced to move (part of the requirement) to Tulsa, OK.
In my company, the break down is like this...

7 people in Help desk - 4 black, 3 hispanic (1 woman), 0 white people
4 people in Information security - 2 persians, 2 white
2 Network engineers (1 is an arch) - 2 white
2 System engineers - 1 white, 1 black (me).

Management
1 Service Desk manager - white
1 InfoSec manager - white
1 Infrastructure manager - white
1 Director - white
1 CIO - white

You see a trend?

The lowest level of IT (helpdesk/service desk) has 0 white people. the higher you go up, the more all white it becomes.
And also, the people who have been in the company the longest are the servicedesk/help desk. So its clear they aren't moving up.

I agree fully with what @bdizzle is saying. I'm 28 now and I have quite a bit of money stored away. I think by the time i'm 30 i want to quit working for other people entirely and go into consulting for black owned businesses. I already do it on the side (i consulted for 3 all black american/nigerian companies last in 2015, not much but its a start). But i'm hoping to make a business out of this.

Now I'm not going to shyt on any of my brehs for working for a white boss while acquiring and honing their skillset. But there has to be an exit plan. Once you have that disposable income, years of experience wearing several different IT hats, you need to think about what you want to be doing for the next 40 years.

Sadly i know brehs who have been working service desk for 9 years + :wow:
They have technical engineering skillset to offer :francis:
