Phil Spencer seems like a decent enough guy, and I like him as the head of XBox, but if it's not time for him to go, it's at least time to start asking about it.
He got dealt a bad hand last gen by taking over for Mattrick so suddenly. But he takes sole ownership of this situation, and it looks pretty bad.
What confuses me the most is that they STARTED all of this by saying they were working on the next generation around the same time they unveiled the One X, if I remember correctly. The fact that they seem generally unprepared is absolutely astonishing to me.
The fact that non of their first party studios have anything big ready for launch is concerning. It makes it seem like somehow they aren't ready for their own launch.
Maybe it's overreaction from it just happening today, but the fact that there's no new date for Halo makes the delay worse. If the game is in a state that you're not comfortable giving a new date, then maybe it shouldn't have been the centerpiece of last month's show. What's worse is that the people who have been insisting that the gameplay demo shown off was indicative that the game wasn't ready automatically feel vindicated.
This all looks bad from the outside looking in, and the person it looks worst for is Phil. He may not get got right now, but he's probably not seeing the end of this console cycle.
