Right now, nowhere
His acting performance in Black Panther was hit or miss for me. Some scenes made me cringe.
He was alright in Creed and Fruitvale Station but as Killmonger I was kinda disappointed

I like him because he seems cool but I don't think he's that great an actor

fahrenheit 451 made this super obvious to me:yeshrug:
I honestly think he just coasted/phoned it in on that one. Not going to judge him too harsh for that, but Creed 2 is going to be crucial for him. He's actually getting Best Supp Actor consideration for Black Panther. If he phones it in or struggles in that movie I can see voters skeptical of giving him the vote.
Fuitvale Station made me a believer. He did a great job.

Also he was very good in Black Panther.

he's okay. yeah he has room to grow and blah blah blah but i think this might be the peak for him. we still waiting on the next denzel

farenheit 451 showed him in a "different" role and besides the movie being redbox status, his acting wasnt anything special

Im torn brehs. On one hand I think he did a very good job in Black Panther and is deserving of his possible Oscar nomination. However at the same time I recognize that Coogler really did a lot of the heavy lifting. That character is one of the GOAT characters ever created, but it just has a good to very good performance from the actor.

Killmonger should be praised as much as Ledger's Joker....except Ledger's Joker was a masterclass in acting by Heath. Perfect combination of incredibly drawn out character + incredible performance.

When you think of him in Panther I kinda can't help but think of a younger Denzel or Jeffrey Wright or younger Morgan Freeman in that role.

There's that pure energy that was missing in his performance.
I do feel like people judge his performance harsher because we know it was all setup for this to be a universally accepted iconic character. Along the lines of Joker, Darth Vader, Hans Gruber, etc.

And its not quite that because Michael B. Jordan was only so good.

Again Creed 2 is crucial because if he can't operate without Coogler his career path will be interesting. That Just Mercy movie should be interesting as well. Can't get outshone by Jamie Foxx. MBJ has decide what kinda of actor he's going to be. Yes he started young, but he's never worked with an acting coach or took an acting lesson before. You watch Panther and see that Winston Duke dude is a classically trained actor.

I do think like Tom Cruise and other "star actors" he can get very good as he ages. However, we know Hollywood doesn't all ways to do that for black actors. I think Will Smith is one who was truly allowed to grow (who didn't start out as a great actor and relied on pure charisma) , but that was helped by him constantly putting hit after hit out. Could argue Jamie Foxx as well, but he was always supremely talented.

I don't think he's that good, but he played Oscar Grant and helped bring that story to the rest of America. I'll always respect him for that.

But he has been mediocre as fukk in his last couple flicks. Killmonger was overrated as fukk to me, Chadwick did a better job as T'Challa. The thing is people like what Killmonger was hollerin so they made it about him, but his acting was hella stiff and generic to me.

My opinion. Don't get all emotional, I think he's a good dude.

Every dope black actor who has a degree of “prestige” had that ONE role that proved their capablity.

For Denzel it was Glory
For Jamie it was Ray
For Will it was Six Degrees Of Separation

I think Fruitvale Station was MJB’s. Lets be honest, MOST black actors that are popular have a degree of “swag” about them that they can rely upon oresn into. Sterling K Brown, Don Cheadle, Chadwicke Boseman, etc. the list goes on. People thought Donald Glover was some nerdy c00n for YEARS because of his role on Community. Fast Forward years later and he’s Lando freaking Carlissian (and the BEST thing in the whole damn movie) Black men are the inventors of “cool”. So MJB in most of his roles is just doing what alot of black actors BEEN doing, which is let the natural swag give them a boost.

It DOESN’T mean they can’t turn on the real “acting chops” when neccessary. And MJB has proven he’s got “it”. Not just in movies either, watch his performance on Friday Night Lights, he did some great acting on that show.

Don't get me wrong I think there is still some growth for MBJ. I thought he was great in Frutivale and Creed as well....however, its not a question of if he's good its a question of if he's limited.

Its just there were some layers missing in his performance. He could have added a few wrinkles to his performance that could have really elevated it. Again the director and writers had everything perfectly set up.

I listened to Wesley Morris on the Bill Simmons podcast talk about you could notice the difference between Chad and Michael when they interacted. Boseman clearly could muster a lot of emotion and movement without saying a word. Chadwicke or Sterling K Brown probably are the favorites to win the Oscar right now if they had that role.

Put it this way. Right now Michael B is like Dwight Howard in his prime. HIs charisma and talent have carried him a lot...even when he's not the most skilled. However, eventually you gotta diversify your game

Just hope he doesn't get complacent cause they only going to let him skate on that HBO movie.

He’s nothing to write home about but, he gets the job done.

In black panther that nikka sounded way too much like “The Game”

He’s pretty role dependent. He’s not exactly Denzel Washington or Larenz Tate or anything but it’s not like he’s 50 Cent either.
what I was going to say

he is nowhere near 50 level of acting where he is smiling all the time after some dialogue :mjlol:

he wasnt really acting in that

he was just a regular hood breh

which is kinda exactly what he was in The Wire, Fruitville station and Creed come to think of it

:patrice:
is why i dont get the premise of the statement that hes bursting with charisma, hes either hood or the black friend thats it.
