I like him because he seems cool but I don't think he's that great an actor
fahrenheit 451 made this super obvious to me
I honestly think he just coasted/phoned it in on that one. Not going to judge him too harsh for that, but Creed 2 is going to be crucial for him. He's actually getting Best Supp Actor consideration for Black Panther. If he phones it in or struggles in that movie I can see voters skeptical of giving him the vote.
Fuitvale Station made me a believer. He did a great job.
Also he was very good in Black Panther.
he's okay. yeah he has room to grow and blah blah blah but i think this might be the peak for him. we still waiting on the next denzel
farenheit 451 showed him in a "different" role and besides the movie being redbox status, his acting wasnt anything special
Im torn brehs. On one hand I think he did a very good job in Black Panther and is deserving of his possible Oscar nomination. However at the same time I recognize that Coogler really did a lot of the heavy lifting. That character is one of the GOAT characters ever created, but it just has a good to very good performance from the actor.
Killmonger should be praised as much as Ledger's Joker....except Ledger's Joker was a masterclass in acting by Heath. Perfect combination of incredibly drawn out character + incredible performance.
When you think of him in Panther I kinda can't help but think of a younger Denzel or Jeffrey Wright or younger Morgan Freeman in that role.
There's that pure energy that was missing in his performance.
I do feel like people judge his performance harsher because we know it was all setup for this to be a universally accepted iconic character. Along the lines of Joker, Darth Vader, Hans Gruber, etc.
And its not quite that because Michael B. Jordan was only so good.
Again Creed 2 is crucial because if he can't operate without Coogler his career path will be interesting. That Just Mercy movie should be interesting as well. Can't get outshone by Jamie Foxx. MBJ has decide what kinda of actor he's going to be. Yes he started young, but he's never worked with an acting coach or took an acting lesson before. You watch Panther and see that Winston Duke dude is a classically trained actor.
I do think like Tom Cruise and other "star actors" he can get very good as he ages. However, we know Hollywood doesn't all ways to do that for black actors. I think Will Smith is one who was truly allowed to grow (who didn't start out as a great actor and relied on pure charisma) , but that was helped by him constantly putting hit after hit out. Could argue Jamie Foxx as well, but he was always supremely talented.
