No comparison ....not even close.. as a matter a fact Kevin Smith fan base is a younger black audience.. Eddie had a following of pretty much every culture and race and was a super star in the entertainment world.. he will go down as a great and many comedians looked up to him including Kevin as he broke down barriers for not only black comedians but black actors...you can mention eddie Murphy for when and he was in his prime 30 years ago let's see how it is 30 years from now when you mention kevin

he ask If KEV was as big as a star as Eddie... he didn't ask if Kevin was as funny as Eddie..
understanding the context is essential.
:what: What are you talking about? I'm not comparing who is funnier

The list of movies shows that Eddie is bigger. What awards has Kevin been nominated for ? He JUST started getting lead roles in movies. How many of his movies was he putting work in on the producer, directing and writing side? Also those movies were huge.

On top of that Eddie dropped music and pretty much was the savior of Saturday Night Live in the 80s.

Kevin Hart is a big comedian who until lately was just playing the supporting role in movies as the comedic relief.

In stature? yea. Kevin is only the second comedian to do a show that filled an ARENA.
But in terms of materials??? hell NO.
Stature's not close. Eddie was on another level. He had multiple lanes and he succeeded in all of them. Kevin filled an arena on his comedy thing, that's commendable.
Eddie filled movie theaters, arenas, had a record that went platinum, he had TV with Saturday Night Live

:wow:

Not even close. I don't think you guys understand just how huge Eddie was in his prime. One can make an argument that Eddie was the biggest movie star in the world during a certain stretch in the '80s. Kevin Hart is nowhere near biggest movie star status. Is he even A-list?

Kevin is benefiting from the fact that we are in a comedy vacuum right now. No one else is really doing anything worth while. The big dogs from yesteryear are all chilling right now. So he's really the only one with real product. And I have a big feeling they are letting him eat because he pushes all the right buttons with the right people (Jews) in the machine. Even Patrice O'Neal said it, Kevin mastered the art of being safe and likeable, and I would say that's 50% of the reason he is so successful. The rest is hard work, good business sense, and being funny enough.

Edit:

Patrice being Patrice, and articulating shyt about Kevin only the way he can. He mentions Kevin's sudden immense fame being really odd because of how he didn't have anything funny or famous enough to spark it. Starts at exactly 14 minutes, but the part where he talks about Kevin being a master at playing the Hollywood game is where I marked it.

Not even close, real talk. People were quoting Murphy's lines from SNL and his first 2 comedy albums for YEARS - even past the 90's. All those buckwheat and gumby skits were like water cooler talk the next day. I'm sure kufti sales spiked after Golden Child as well, Kevin Hart might be close in box office $$$, but social impact, not even close, real talk.
