He's not a superstar. He's not one of the best five players in the league. He's a guy who is quickly becoming the most overrated player on this site. And if we held Kawhi Leonard to the same standard we hold LeBron James to, nobody would even entertain this thought.
Look, last night he had his career high in points. It was 32. Does that sound like a superstar to you? Now, I'm not saying he doesn't have the POTENTIAL or won't BECOME a superstar, but, today? Nah. He's a tremendous defender (one of the best in the league) but he's not going to carry a team. He's not consistent making his own shot. He misses free throws in the clutch. He's not going to take over many games. He's a guy who plays extremely hard and is in the perfect situation to flourish and to his credit that's exactly what he is doing, so there's no shade here.
I can't call you a superstar if you can't really be a first option on offense (I don't think he's a second option either). The Spurs are constructed differently - about as "team" as you can get - so for them he's a MAX VALUE PLAYER but as far as league wide he's no superstar.
So the only standard you can think to hold Kawhi Leonard to is Lebron, who has been the best player in basketball going on 7 or 8 years...
But then you telling me Kawhi is not a superstar:yeah ok:
Set the standard for a player at Lebron James but then say he is not a superstar breh :yeah ok:
He can't be a number 1 option:dahellwhat:
Dude is out here legit guarding and locking down 3 positions on defense...and you need him to be a no 1 option on offense:dahellwhat:
If we held stephen curry and james harden to that same standard...you got to be the best defender on your team...be able to effectively guard at least 3 positions, AND be the no 1 scoring option on your team...these dudes would be considered scrubs...
In between dunking and knocking down 3's and knocking down fadeaways and knocking down and 1 jumpshots...did you see what Kawhi Leonard did to Chris Paul?
You want me to post Chris Paul averages against steph in the playoffs last year:dahellwhat:
He is a good player but not a superstar. Let's put this in perspective. He has 3 future Hall of Famers on his team, not including coach Popovich that attract attention and can turn it up at any point in the playoffs. Duncan, Parker, and Ginobili all scored in single digits last night but teams know better than to underestimate them. We need to have this discussion after the Hall of Famers on his team retire.
If Kawhi Leonard is a superstar, then you have to set the bar to the superstar level. How can Kawhi Leonard be a superstar and not held to their standard? I don't think Kawhi Leonard is a superstar, hence why I don't criticize his game, but seems there seems to be a large amount of people who DO think he is a superstar, then we should hold him to the superstar bar, right? And he just doesn't cut it, he's not at the LeBron/Durant level. He's just not. If you want to say he is a "superstar" defender, then I guess we've gotta include Draymond Green as a superstar now.
bron literally does that every single game lol
I'VE BEEN GIVING YOU A fukkING REASON... HE CAN'T SCORE AT A HIGH ENOUGH LEVEL!So is Steph a superstar? The league tells me he is but night in and night out he can barely defend his own position let alone 3...
So is Harden a superstar? He still one of the worst defenders in basketball so I don't think he is a candidate to guard even 1 position effectively...
And if you telling me these guys are not superstars then how did they become the top two candidates for the MVP...
He not at the Lebron Durant level but you can't even give a real basketball reason why is not...all you can say is "he just not"...:yeah ok:
Is it just me or does it seem like for all the winning the Spurs do they seem like they are having the least fun
Kwahi has the look on his face like he's actually working a 9-5 sometimes
You don't have to showboat but goddamn these Spurs teams are emotionless
I'VE BEEN GIVING YOU A fukkING REASON... HE CAN'T SCORE AT A HIGH ENOUGH LEVEL!
If you can't be the focal point of an offense and carry it then I don't see you as a superstar. You keep talking about defense, but that shyt is slanted. Scoring is the most important part of the sport, and I'd rather have a guy who can score at any point in the game, especially the clutch. And as great of a defender as Kawhi is, he's not guarding everyone on the court at the same time, nor is he going to shut down an entire team in the playoffs (nobody will/could, the closest thing you'll get is a big man who controls the paint).
You're talking like I said he was a bum. I never said he didn't have an impact. I said he's not a superstar; I judge superstars as elite players and he's not one. I even said that he has the potential to be one, but right now? Nah. But now having the knowledge that you're a Spurs fan, I see your agenda, so I'm gonna let you cook with this one.The Spurs were 8-9 this year without him this season....yet we had one of the best records post the all star break wgen he was healthy but ill let you cook.
Notice the first two games of the finals last year were tight weren't a coincidence since he was in foul trouble. Notice the last 3 games being blowouts and he was NOT in foul trouble. Ill let you cook tho....
Who was guarding Durant down the stretch of game 6 when Durant suddenly was not doing a damn thing last year too![]()
