I hate the Spurs but the guy is probably the best defensive player in the league, and he may not get the opportunity to carry the offense, but he can ......

catch and shoot
hit pull ups off the dribble
get to the rim and finish
post up
great offensive rebounder

What else u want ??:manny:

People said the same thing about James harden when he was in OKC. If you know basketball you can see Leonard would put up 25 a night easy if he had the chance. He's definitely a superstar IMO, just doesn't have the numbers because of the talent around him.

I said yes, but I do wanna see a rematch of him and Bron in the finals again. I wouldn't say he shut Bron down, but he did outplay him straight up. I feel like Bron might want some payback for that shyt. Kawhi's gotten better offensively, but he's still not a number 1 type option like Bron/KD is. I think he needs to reach that point before we can comfortably say he's a super star.

In the playoffs, for the Spurs, he becomes a superstar somehow. Anywhere else he wouldn't be as good, but that's why the Spurs are resigning him. He may even have a career that unfolds like Tim Duncan, where he lowkey has consistently dominant seasons, but never was flashy or talkative enough to catch anyone's attention.

He's not a superstar. He's not one of the best five players in the league. He's a guy who is quickly becoming the most overrated player on this site. And if we held Kawhi Leonard to the same standard we hold LeBron James to, nobody would even entertain this thought.

Look, last night he had his career high in points. It was 32. Does that sound like a superstar to you? :comeon: Now, I'm not saying he doesn't have the POTENTIAL or won't BECOME a superstar, but, today? Nah. He's a tremendous defender (one of the best in the league) but he's not going to carry a team. He's not consistent making his own shot. He misses free throws in the clutch. He's not going to take over many games. He's a guy who plays extremely hard and is in the perfect situation to flourish and to his credit that's exactly what he is doing, so there's no shade here.

I can't call you a superstar if you can't really be a first option on offense (I don't think he's a second option either). The Spurs are constructed differently - about as "team" as you can get - so for them he's a MAX VALUE PLAYER but as far as league wide he's no superstar.

Serious question tho....if he was given free reign to run the offense, you don't think he could put up 25 a night consistently??

Absolutely not. If he was the #1 option and a team could focus its defensive game plan on stopping Kawhi Leonard, no way in hell he averages 25, and certainly not in a playoff series. And if Kawhi Leonard is your number one go-to scorer and you need him to get 25 every night to win, that team isn't winning 30 games. I just don't see it. He's not creative offensively at all.

This season, only LeBron James, James Harden, and Russell Westbrook put up more than 25 points per game. You think Kawhi Leonard belongs on that list? :comeon:

people only questioning him because he wasnt hyped up coming out of school.

but those of us who watch college basketball outside of the same ole 5-10 teams, we already knew about kawhai when he was an aztec.

and all this "wait until he has to carry them" stuff is nonsense. did yall put these stipulations on kobe & duncan?

I get debates and shyt but I hate when ppl act like they know what would happen in hypothetical scenarios. "If X team didn't have any injuries they'd have 3 rings by now." "If X player was the main focus he's putting up 15/5/6 stop it B" type of stupid ass opinionated comments. Nobody knows what would happen in those types of scenarios cuz they didn't happen. Anyways Kawhi is a star in this league right now

i think he would be a more creative offensive player if he was given a chance. I've seen him break down a defense, get in the lane, and make some very advanced, PG-type reads. However, he has to work within the Spurs system, which doesn't allow much freelancing or ball stopping.

He's definitely not on hardens level as a ball handler, but very few are. And that's something he could improve upon I'm sure. He's already so much better off the dribble than when he first came in, that would just be the logical next progression. I just see a guy who has a very good all around offensive game with room to improve still

I remember that Aztec team. It was him and Billy White that I was sure would come into wreck shop in the NBA....they had another forward that I thought was clean too. I can't remember dude's name though.
