Ancillary Character
The issue being the declining viewership.
Question: Do you think the Nielsen viewing audience at home simply isn't feeling guys like Seth Rollins, Dean Ambrose, Kevin Owens, Bray Wyatt, Finn Balor etc? Is it also possible that they just aren't feeling the vast majority of the roster?
I've noticed when the ratings go down and guys like the above are the champion, or in prominent positions on the show or all over the show most weeks, the finger gets pointed at everything except them. It tends to either be the ever popular "when in doubt blame Roman" or find the next most convenient scapegoat and give them a pass.
I'll put it like this. Maybe the stars they're getting (with or without Roman) aren't particularly interesting or all that engaging. Maybe there's a very dull light surrounding these stars. I'm sure it doesn't help the folks at home having to see them constantly every week and constantly in recycled reruns having variations of the same matches weekly. Hell, we don't even have to get into the length or how people on boards like this hate watch it out of habit. There's also that disconnect between good crowd reactions and the needle moving sometimes...
Kinda goes into another issue. If Roman isn't the dude and the dudes they try with are barely doing lateral or doing less, who do you go with?
