Is it cringey how serious Bret Hart took wrasslin?

In hindsight, yes. He worked himself into a lifetime shoot, and has had a miserable existence since.

Carrying that karma with you is no joke. Getting Goldberg's upside the head and the motorcycle crash weren't spiritual coincidences. He held on to too much to not have that karma collect on him.

:yeshrug: I’d rather have people who are passionate about their craft than people who half ass it

Bret is one of the GOATS and it was all through hard work

Kobe took basketball extremely seriously and is one of the best ever, should we criticize him?

He wouldn't be the best there is, the best there was, and the best there ever will be if he didn't. :manny:

I do notice that wrestlers who take themselves too seriously always get criticized for it. Like CM Punk. One of the things he took pride in was modeling himself after old-school wrestlers like Harley Race.

Punk thinking he was some old school tough guy while being a skinny fat dikkhead doing hours and hours of shoot interviews 4-5 years into the business with regional indie success under his belt is a whole lot different than Bret Hart taking his craft seriously and being one of the best in ring guys of all time as a result.

Not saying Punk was as successful as Hart was with that mentality, but it helps me understand his approach with certain things. When he was WWE Champion, he felt like he had to do whatever Vince asked of him because that was what they did back in the day. It's the reason he went so hard trying to get the WrestleMania main event, and why his promos didn't even sound like he was playing a character. Just felt like he was always trying to prove something.

I know Punk is a polarizing figure, but he definitely gave a lot of himself to the business.

Till,....people around here rant.
Especially on punk.
I don't think they can critique punk.
As they have not established,..they are smart.
to be overly critical of punk as an inring performer.

I was watching a wrestling non wwe documentary i forgot the name but i remember he was being interviewed and then i realized the room he was in was the one scott hall was talking about
It was litterally a shrine with all bret hart stuff around him

:mjlol:
It’s funny how Scott Hall always talks about marks this and fake that, but he turned back to the bottle when he found out he was jobbing to Austin at WM18 :wow:

Yeah, that Jordan guy was crazy for taking basketball too seriously, too.
Bret's family was pretty much ingrained in wrestling. His grandfather, his father... all made money from it. Bret was raised around those dudes. I never understood why people had a problem with him taking something that meant so much to his family, so seriously.
And you hear other guys constantly put themselves over. They'll hide behind money and miles, but won't tell you how they screwed people out of their spots and played politics for fake fights.
shyt, you know what Bret said is the best thing he's done, it wasn't an event, it wasn't an angle, it wasn't a promo, not even a match, it was that he never injured another person in the ring.
I don't think anyone else has ever said something like that in regards to their own careers.

How exactly did Bret take the wrestling business seriously?

Bret didn’t care bout the business anywhere near as much as he cared about being booked as the best. Someone who cares bout the business would have no problem putting other people over clean.

There is no wrestler in history that put less people over than Bret Hart. Y’all forget the whole reason the Montreal Screwjob happened in the first place was because of his refusal to put someone over. Someone who cared about the business would have done business. Why the hell would you expect to win a title match your last day in the company? :gucci:

Try to find a video of Bret putting someone in WWF over clean that wasn’t in his family.
