My wife took my name but hyphenated would have been fine with me though. I would not have been thrilled for her to not take my name at all and my children not having my surname was not even brought up (and would have been a no go for me).

Of course famous folks are an exception and Chinese women keep their maiden name by cultural default.

Almost all the Black folks married Black I know, professional or not, the woman took her husband's name and a few hyphenated.

Interestingly, almost all the Black women I know that kept their name are married to non-Black men.

@ThrobbingHood what your fiancee say?
My ex wife still uses my last name. Figured she would change it back

I remember when I was young, a young lady told me she would hyphen her name when she got married. I said nothing, and just placed her in the for play ben. No need to argue, no need to convince, plenty of women out there willing to take their husbands last name back then.

I don't know how it is now, but all of the marriages I have been to, the women took the last names of their husbands.

There is zero upside for men to get married, and women are the main ones pushing for marriage. The very least she can do is change her goofy name, doctor, lawyer, politician or not.

Yeah, I have not seen any Black couple I know personally where the woman doesn't takes the man's name, even if they are professional high flyers. Most of what I have seen are a number of the married White women I know professionally and personally kept their maiden name. As I stated in the previous post, Black women married to White men are the largest group of Black women I know that kept their maiden name. One even convinced her husband to give their kids her surname. For whatever reason though, White women married to Black men I know all took his name. I think White men these days are just nonchalant about the surname question for whatever reason.

To me it really only makes sense not to take the last name of your husband if you come from a famous or influential family. and aim to leverage that to futher your own career. Like how all of Diana Ross's kids have her last name instead of their pops last name. Tracy Ellis Ross is better for her career than Tracy Ellis SIlberstein.

Outside of that whats the point in valuing traditional marriage of you not going to follow the actual tradition? If you doing your own thing, skip the marriage, go out and get matching tattoos or something. Why have the government involved in a practice you not actually following?
