Is Half-Life the most successful series to be killed off for no good reason?

keep hope alive :sadcam:

the radio silence is wack. I don't want to sound like an "entitled gamer", but I do feel we're at least owed an explanation

kinda wack the press don't put pressure on Valve either. sure they might assume it's never happening, but again there should at least be an explanation of wtf happened
Waste of money.

Try hard Nerds will just shyt on it for not coming out 10 years ago.

Then bring up eyelashes.

And don't let there be a black person as a hero somewhere in the game

Legal issues are a pretty good reason to end things there. They were basically using the players without using their names and it came back to bite them. What's the point in them making NCAA games with totally fake rosters not based on anybody? As it stands now sports games are typically annual roster updates with minor added features. NCAA titles wouldn't even need annual roster updates anymore. The alternative is paying all those players.

well the rosters were techincally "fake" no player names, it was nerds who edited it.

they could release it with every player being 7 foot 300lbers and by trhe end of the week nerds would have edited it to perfection

Left4dead is better and they just stopped for no reason. But a good way to put it is valve just doesn't milk a series to death so I guess that's a good thing.

there were 'leaks' awhile back about L4D3, but I haven't heard anything recently. it just seems like Valve's loose 'do what you want' business structure makes it difficult for them to complete any long term projects. it's like they're too quick to put shyt on the back burner, and move on to something else

The writer for Half Life posted the plot to Half Life Episode 3 on his blog.

http://www.marclaidlaw.com/epistle-3/

The site is getting hammered currently and the names have been changed to avoid copyright but yeah, this was Episode 3.

Here's a tl:dr of the post with the proper names:

-Gordon and Alyx head to Antartica and find a Combine base built around the Borealis, their helicopter gets shot down
-The Borealis is a weird shifting place that exists into two places simultaneously
-Breen as a Combine grub doesn't quite realize what happened to him, but hates his current state and after capturing Gordon and Alyx, asks them to kill him. Alyx refuses, but the player/Gordon can apparently do something to kill him
-Mossman claims that Eli had tasked her with being a triple agent for the Resistance all along
-They realize the Borealis is "stretched" between the past and present, not just two places in space; the Aperture scientists activated the device during the Seven Hours' War while the Combine was approaching and attempted to warp to Antarctica to be as remote as possible, but ended up warping into the future
-Time and space warp more around the Borealis and they get a glimpse of the Combine's headquarters they launch invasions from
-Mossman wants to "anchor" the Borealis in the present in Antarctica to safeguard it for the Resistance, Alyx wants to honor Eli's wishes and destroy it so it can never be misused; there's talk of the potential time paradoxes
-Mossman and Alyx fight, Alyx shoots Mossman
-Gordon and Alyx rig the Borealis to self destruct and create a missile that can travel between dimensions, essentially turning the Borealis into a time/space warping bomb aimed at the Combine base
-As they fire it, the G-Man suddenly appears and reveals that he's been keeping tabs on Alyx as some kind of sleeper agent (as hinted at in Episode 2) since the events of Black Mesa, and actually appears to Alyx (she remembers him) and takes her with him through his glowy train door as a "replacement" for Gordon, who he leaves to die
-The player sees that the Combine base is actually a massive Dyson sphere and there's no way the Borealis bomb will actually do any significant damage
-The Vortigaunts intervene and pull Gordon out right before the Borealis self destructs

And there you have it brehs, closure, bittersweet closure.:mjcry:

Valve cant seem to count to three apparently.

Half Life

Left 4 Dead

Portal

Team Fortress

All just left hanging for no real reason.

As far as Half Life is concerned, the sad thing is even if they made 3, it's gonna have to make the biggest splash in gaming history.
I wish nikkas would actually boycott them but such is life

Half-Life Episode 3 or 3 in general would sell like crazy but Valve isn't going to make it. Not because it wouldn't be successful but because they simply refuse to. It's a baffling situation. Normally a series flops its way into death. Half-Life did the opposite.

This is clearly a thing where the developer is afraid they can't live up to the hype of the fans and because they don't need to make it to keep the lights on they aren't going to.
It did flop, on consoles. Valve knew pc gamers were easily impressed and deprived of p*ssy. So adding woman character mods was not gonna carry the game on consoles. Cashed out :hubie:
