Is Half-Life the most successful series to be killed off for no good reason?

For a time it was Metroid.
I don't know if Metroid was really that successful in Nintendo's eyes. It didn't do so hot in their home country. Maybe in the new age of gaming it can do better because console gaming in Japan has flat-lined.

It ended on a massive cliff hanger. I don't understand what ol boy is talking about....the story obviously wasn't done in Episode 2.

Fred.
yep, all hype about HL3 isn't just cause people want another game. the shyt was left unfinished

it's interesting cause Valve basically pioneered the episodic format, and then proceeded to expose it's major weakness. imagine if Telltale started a series, never finished it, just started some other shyt, and kept going like nothing happened

I wouldn't call The Wolf Among Us and Tales from the Borderlands completely finished. They both ended in a place where they could still continue.

TFTB is IMO the best game Telltale ever made and the fact that it will likely never get a continuation is a crime. Then again a lot of the people involved with it ave left the company last I heard.

leaving room, or setting up, for a sequel is different. both of those games were supposed to be 5 episodes, and they released 5 episodes. having an inconclusive, or unsatisfying, ending isn't the same either

imagine if a game was planned to be 5 episodes. they released 4, with the 4th one setting up the final episode... and then the final episode never came out :wtf:

it would be semi-understandable if the company went out of business, some legal shyt happened, or whatever. but Valve doing better than ever

Telltale already kind of did something like this.

Game of Thrones literally has no conclusive ending and they basically tell you to buy the next one when it drops if you want some sort of ending. Minecraft went 5 eps then they released a $40 DLC right after for 5 more eps.

:laff: this forum... :laff: NCAA titles not in the same stratosphere as Half Life success wise

Half Life is the most awarded series of all time

NCAA.. not so much
For the type of gamer that plays lonely games like dota, they would agree with you. Half-Life was ported to consoles and in that realm the game flopped. Nobody gives a fukkin shyt about Half-Life for real for real. It was alright but average overall. Didn't age well.

So I understand in your gaming space that game was epic. In the console realm it was mediocre.

You know what's weird, like really weird. People who act like PC gaming is mainstream :francis:

You know how you grew up playing Nintendo, arcades/etc. Back then PC gaming was around and it is now. But GAMES in general are made for consoles. Halo, uncharted, Mario, universal appeal. When asked about the same level of titles in the pc space you'll name games like Half-Life. Then maybe you'll mention Dota again? Oregon trail? Some dating simulator that is only available in Korea but you mask your VPN so you can log in?

You also said something about 11yr olds? Kids play the DS, you'd know this if you had any (pc gamers usually don't for obvious reasons) so while you focus on a segment of the population you can't even really speak on, you also neglected to speak on all the non kids. You know, the cool ass adults who would more likely play Madden, 2k, battlefield. So real nikkaz. This website is a spinoff of support online hip-hop dot com, what brings you here.

PC GAMING IS NOT HIP-HOP

The type of games you act like are relevant never were on consoles. Just like how sports games don't sell well on PC. Y'all are built differently. If a war was going on and they said they needed soldiers, they needed MEN. The not gonna go to the computer lab to find them :francis:
