Is Half-Life the most successful series to be killed off for no good reason?

Half Life had an amazing multiplayer and it spawned expansions/mods such as Counter Strike, what are you talking about ?

Counter Strike wasn't originally a stand alone game Thats how dope Half Life multiplayer was

Ironically, Death Match mode was huge for Multiplayer Half-Life, so im not following what this post is about at all..

My dumbass forgot it had a mp because its been years since I played it. But it was definitely an old school ass arena style multiplayer that only fps purists play in this day and age. Like I think the new quake will flop in the mainstream because that audience is niche now.

Half-Life Episode 3 or 3 in general would sell like crazy but Valve isn't going to make it. Not because it wouldn't be successful but because they simply refuse to. It's a baffling situation. Normally a series flops its way into death. Half-Life did the opposite.

This is clearly a thing where the developer is afraid they can't live up to the hype of the fans and because they don't need to make it to keep the lights on they aren't going to.

Valve has stuff like Steam. This wouldn't effect them. It would be something more of a pet project simply for the fans at this point. It's not gonna happen because the date kept sliding and the anticipation kept building to the point where it's a monster now.

If this game comes out it'll be Final Fantasy XV and even if it's successful people will rip it to shreds anyway. People have waited so long it can never be what they want it to be now.

I think at this point with Half-Life there is a better chance of a complete reboot of the series.

Also, many consider episode 2 and 3 as "Part 3" anyway.

Valve is worth billions.. why would the studio go away even if it was a huge budget of $100-200 million

and 0% chance it flops.. it might not make an insane profit (even though I think it would, if Far Cry series can do huge numbers I dont see why a Half Life 3 wouldnt lap it) but its not like they wouldnt make anything back

For a time it was Metroid.

Valve will do part 3 at some point. They won't let those ends stay loose. FPS games have been stagnant and when 2 dropped it was just such a wonderful collection of current trends. Heavy story, wide open worlds, smart AI was really beginning to come up.

They just need something to show. Then it will come.

we were supposed to get 3 episodes and we got 2. episode 2 basically ended on a cliff hanger. "so many" consider it unfinished
