Tbh almost every character that had a dope back story and dope moments in the first part of naruto becomes a useless character. Remember when we learned of Neji's back story and his dilemma? After his fight with Kidomaru what did we really see him do? Same thing with everyone on the Sasuke recovery team except Shikamaru. They were thrown to the waste side completely when Shippuden hit. That's one of the biggest flaws of Naruto tbh.THIS.

The anime should have followed the same formula as the manga. In the mangas, Red started out, caught a grip of pokemon, conquered the league, and his story had a legit beginning, middle, and end. After that they focused on a new character for the next arc, and each storyline followed a different protagonist in each region (Kanto, Johto, Sinnoh, Hoenn, etc.)
Dishonorable mention:
Dude is a dope character, but he's totally wasted because the whole series got turned into a giant Uchiha-fest. Lee should have been the main character of his own series, and I don't mean that chibi-type gag manga--I'm talking a full-on series with whole arcs, new villains, and new adventures.
Yeah, it's kind of a flaw of Shonen manga in general that side characters tend to get thrown by the wayside after a while.
In Dragonball, eventually everybody that wasn't a Saiyan or god became irrelevant. In Naruto, eventually everybody that wasn't a Jinchuriki or Uchiha became irrelevant. Same thing in Bleach.
It's kind of impressive that One Piece has mostly avoided that considering how long its been running.

On the real, the Gohan Vs Buu fight was some upper echelon bullshyt. He didn't even go full power and was tossing Buu's ass.
The fact Akira tossed away the build up of everyone being dead, his mom and Videl included is astounding. Gohan thinking Dende is dead and then losing the last of his friends because of Super Buu absorbing them would have been

At the start of their fight he says he can still feel their energy and starts beating on Buu like he did Cell so he could make them be spat out like 18 was.
It had potential to be the darkest saga and most complete.
Gave it all up for Kakarot.
