A mananger does whatever it takes for their artist to become successful. Jay-Z walked Rito Ora's song to radio for it to debut. The fact of the matter is, depending on who the manager is an artist can still be consider major without being traditionally signed to a record label.

Rita was also signed to Roc Nation as an artist.

Yea, he doesn't need the industry...but, two album have been Apple ("The Industry") exclusives.

Yea, that pales in comparison to radio play.

I didn't post that vid to make a statement about Chance's radio play. My problem is the way the industry has monopolized all the avenues to listeners. And, in Chance case, their artists are even posting as indy. Just as streaming is getting big; the labels will get rid of the CD and move to get rid of even downloading and having local copies of mp3 to strictly streaming.

Don't be fooled because GOOD Music, Maybach Music, Cash Money, etc. aren't attached to them. Those aren't even real labels anyway. If you follow the chain up, you find the real power and the ppl I'm actually concerned about.

Chill, I have nothing against Chance. I think the practice of covering guys like him as indy, is wrong.

He released them as an exclusive release. They distributed them. I said this on the last page. If he records an album and apple says "cool, we'll pay you if we can debut it on Apple music" and that's it, then that's dope as fukk. Apple is literally doing nothing else but releasing it and recouping through subscribers.

There's no advance as a loan. There's no owning of masters. There's no 360 deal. There's literally nothing that makes it a label. He's making these deals and music independent of a label.

So he's still independent in most people's eyes. But we can agree to disagree, bruh.

And you're right about the streaming but look at young thug. He's signed and is essentially a streaming only artist but because he's signed to a label, he can't even release hitunes. He is obligated to a label and how they want to release. Chance can literally drop whenever he wants and he's essentially a streaming only artist, too.

That's practically the ONLY link on the net :laff:

Breh, I already know about that shyt. In fact, I'm probably the first person to post that very link on The Coli. Somewhere in my posts last year. To demonstrate how Kendrick wasn't on any radar (nikkas were trying to act like he had a huge buzz in 2010, which is just :mjlol:) 26th on the list of a magazine that had fallen off.

There's probably one more link talking about OD from some random person's blog. and that's it. No more coverage.

Hardly the "buzzing" mixtape that y'all pretend it was.

cool story. I need them receipts breh. Links that show blogs flipping out over Overly Dedicated and early Kendrick work

I'm not your father, I can't hold your hand. :camby:

There's this thing called google you can use to search Overly Dedicated on 2dopeboyz and other major blogs. Stop asking for "receipts" breh it's sad. We understand you didn't listen to rap until 2011 but it's not hard to get a general sense of how things were at one time or another.

I remember Overly Dedicated being on all the blogs, just like KRIT/Spitta/etc at the time. Mixtape wise nobody was touching Cole's buzz (outside of Drake obviously) but Kendrick had a nice buzz too.

Idk about Interscope.

But not every "independent" artist can have their dad make one phone call & have their son signed to a management company that it is probably worth more than most majors & able to cut a 5 figure check to get their career started.

Is Chance signed to a Major Record Label? No.

Is he signed to a Major Corporation? Yes.

Chance is Indy, what's so hard to understand. He is NOT signed to a MAJOR label, so he is Indy.

CAA ain't putting no money behind his music, they simply setup deals for him.

There is no major label putting promo dollars behind Chance. So he is Indy.

Being Indy is obviously what Apple is promoting, fukk a label essentially. Chance is Indy and doing fine. Frank went Indy and did amazing things. Cut the middle man.

Breh, I've already seen that. It doesn't count. It's just a post :russ: 2dopeboyz posts a gazillion shyt you've never heard and will never hear. There's not even a review.

If OD had as much buzz as you claim you did, you should be firing them links at me. Not this drip, drip shyt. You should have at least 10 review links from top blogs with the swiftness.

He already released two big mixtapes before surf/coloring book and was a huge artist himself. It's a huge deal but it's not like it was his first tape ever and nobody ever heard of him. Chance has very smart people managing him. You won't see some shyt like how Universal owns most of trukfit or something.

:mjlol: nikkas act like Chance's father was the goddamn vice president. What clout does he have in the entertainment industry?

you're furio :russ:

Breh, it's simple: facts have receipts. Stories are cool and all that, but receipts matter. :umad:

LOL at repeating "Kendrick had a nice buzz" like a duncecap and having zero receipts for it.
