No ifs ands or buts...Americans did this shyt to themselves once they allowed corporations to dictate the livelihood of society. You can't repair/service them. Even the refurbs have to go back to Apple for repairs because you have no access to parts.​

Those users don't want to repair nor service them. They want to just 'use' the phones.
They're not power users in any respect, they want to turn on the phone, press a button, and enjoy. This is the use case Apple wants. I say this only in regards to their phones, if this involves laptops then yeah, it's setting up a fukked up precedent BUT they've already made it difficult to get parts so what's to be mad about? Apple refusing to turn back now after years of doing this shyt?

Very few people are paying full price for their phones day 1 and instead have them with the cell phone plans
I’m assuming though this will allow you to switch it out even easier and you’ll do it through the Apple Store so the carriers don’t have full control over the phone if you stop paying for the service

I think the difference is you’re not paying to “own”, this new subscription service is simply paying to “use” with the end goal not being ownership. It was stated that it will be easier to switch out or upgrade to new products.

They kinda have to do this. I can't stand Apple products, but phones are advanced enough and there hasn't been a "killer app" in years that phones of 5 years ago can't run.

I was on that upgrade my phone plan every 2 years until I bought an S9 note 3 and half years ago. This phone does everything today's phones does and still has the max storage that most high end phones have. I just don't need a new phone every 2 years ago. And I'm a tech nerd. There's nothing justifying me spending another G on a phone for awhile.

All these companies just have it built into their sales cycle for damn near 20 years. But a lot of people are smartening up. You could justify it when in a simple product cycle you were jumping from simply talking and texting, then the next cycle playing music, to the next cycle answering email, to the next cycle playing video, to the next cycle having a gps, to the next cycle having basically a mini computer, to the next cycle basically being able to run a business off your phone.

The tech has been relatively stagnant for consumers for the last 6 years, so I forsee all the companies locking us into this bullshyt inevitably.

Samsung will but Android will remain open source through OHA so there will always been competition out there.

Apple has already been forced with Right to Repair so you can service your iPhone without their permission even more so now.

Breh, you CAN'T service these phones on your own as the hardware is encoded requiring software to reprogram it to be recognized by the OS.

A simple battery replacement requires reprogramming.

Apple doesn't sell that software to individuals. Only to AASP's. But, that ain't all.....

Its even worse when you consider that battery life is the area where the most innovation needs to happen. All they are currently doing is making the battery bigger, but not really more efficient.
But battery life isnt even a large selling point anymore.

Unless you are constantly camping and have no access to electricity for days at a time, having your battery last for 1 day is more than enough for 95% of the population.

I think phone technology is going to be stagnant for a while.

Phone tech has stagnated heavy. My paid off iPhone 8 does everything the 13 does. I don’t care too much for the camera stuff, it’s minimal (the best camera to have is the one on hand to shoot when the moment arrives).

The like of onscreen touch id is the only thing holding me back from jumping to a newer model. I may just cop the SE2 with max storage and call it a day.
