Somebody's already said it but phone tech is essentially maxed out.
Phones from 4-5 years ago can comfortably do what a phone released this year can do because nothing has changed.
The camera quality jump is hardly there or distinctively noticeable anymore between older and newer models as they're all high resolution.
Battery life? well you can now charge up your phones in your car and places have chargers when you're out.
Storage? well if you need more you can just buy additional cloud storage (it was always photos, videos and downloaded music that took up storage space)
There is no reason to upgrade until your phone starts having significant hardware issues.
