If you shut down a school that doesn't have enough money for its children and send those kids to another school, where does the money come from? Those kids still will be underfunded.

There is no more money to be put in it. And people use the studies you quote as a justification for that fact. It's a show stopper because the money is just not there. You do your own plan a disservice by pushing the idea that money doesn't matter, all while needing more money to make your plan a reality.

the money comes from the savings of shutting down the public school and using money efficiently, charter schools and private schools do not have to deal with unions and they have more control over how they spend money so they can use their money more efficiently

i never said money doesnt matter to argue against cutting funding, i was making the argument that higher funding doesn't correlate to higher academic performance

i dont where you are getting the numbers that the numbers are not there, there are literally hundreds of schools districts across the country, which schools district are you referring to and how do you know how much money they have?

Again if you close an underfunded school in order to open a new school that new school will be underfunded as well.

not if you get private funding and not if you use the money more efficiently by not using unions and having more local control over the money

:snoop: everything costs money.

You have to pay someone to plan the closing of the school. You have to pay someone to plan the opening of a school. You have to pay for new lesson plans. You have to pay for transportation. You have to pay to demolish the school or to fix it up. And that's only a few examples. If we take 50 kids that don't have enough money and send them to a new school with the same amount of money, they still won't have enough money. And that's without all of the added costs it would take to get them out of one school and in to the next.

i dont know where you are getting your numbers from, if you shut down a school, then that means the school system doesnt have to pay for it, it takes a lot of money to have a school open, do you think schools are for free?

and you are already spending money transporting kids, and a lot of times the old schools are just turned over to the charter schools so the kids are not really going anywhere, its just the management that changes

The numbers are just not there now, which is why there aren't more charter schools. The only way to get more charter schools is with more money. Why is that so hard to understand?

Shutting down a school costs money. The operating costs that you save by closing the school are not savings because they still have to be allocated to the children.

Lets make it simple a school has 10 kids and each kid gets $10 per year. This school is currently underfunded and failing. The state closes the school and sends the kids to another school. It's students get $15 a year. Where do we get the extra $5 a year these kids will need in order to be succesful in their new school?

I have no idea where you are getting your information from but you are very misinformed, the main thing stopping charter schools and vouchers is not money, it's unions and liberal democrats

First how do you know the school is underfunded? Maybe it's doing bad becuase of the culture and management

When you switch schools the school system no longer has to pay for a building and it doesn't have to pay union salary and benefits and doesn't have to pay for janitors and other overhead that's is where the money comes from

On top of that you can always increase funding and you can always raise money from private sources

Funding and Assistance - Insights on Educational Policy, Practice, and Research, Charter Schools: Early Learnings (Comparison of Charter School Legislation), Number 5, July 1995

There is little question about whether starting a new school or converting an old one costs money. Both do. The lack of necessary funds and assistance, particularly in the early stages of implementation, remains one of, if not the, biggest obstacles charter schools face. The costs of planning and operating charter schools are largely borne by the parents, teachers, and community members who organize the schools and contribute intense amounts of energy, time, and money to get them started.

All of the overhead goes with the kids it doesn't disapear.

:snoop: can't do that with our current laws.

i think you are misreading that, that is saying that money is a challenge but people and groups have meeting that challenge, there is an actual overflow of people applying to open charter schools but most states have limits

Lawmaker vows to throw out limit on charter schools » Standard-Times
Patrick is sponsoring two sweeping “school choice” proposals. One would lift the current cap of 215 licenses Texas issues to operate charter schools and creating a special board to oversee a flood of new charter applications he expects will follow. The other is a voucher plan that would allow businesses to earn tax credits for donations that help poor and at-risk children leave public schools for private or religious ones — diverting public money to private schools.

this is the current situation, states have limits on charter schools and there is a flood of applications, liberals and unions are fighting to keep the limits and republicans are trying to remove the limits

hmm not it doesnt go with the kids, overhead has to do with management and number of workers and how much they get paid

and you can raise money privately for charter schools, that is what HCZ is doing

and private schools that use vouchers can obviously can raise their own money

yeah, i cant believe how misinformed you are about the charter schools, the whole issue around charter schools is how many of them should be and what limits should be placed on it, money is not what is slowing charter schools, there are plenty of foundations and corporations putting money into charter schools

The management and number of workers has to expand with the kids. You can't add hundreds of kids to a school and not add overhead.

:snoop: privatize education.

you asked where the money is coming from, im just explaining it comes from reducing overhead, it actually isnt a given that you need the same amount of workers and the same amount of management, i dont know why you think that

on of the big criticisms of public schools is that they have bloated bureaucracies, they have a lot of managers and administrators that dont actually teach, charter schools reduce that bureaucracy, im not sure why you think every single manager is important, some are them are not and a lot of their pay can be reduced and a lot of jobs eliminated
