I’m cutting now and decided to try IF. I switched up from a lot of heavy weight training to a lot more cardio training with 2-3 days of weights a week nothing heavy I’m doing more volume training (high reps lots of sets). The first week I was on IF I lost 5 lbs. I haven’t weighed myself since but I’m noticing my main and problem area ( the side of my chest) finally shaping how I wanted it to. I’ve also noticed my appetite becoming more suppressed since I’ve started IF. I give myself a 8 hour window to eat (12pm -8pm) but I often only eat 1 meal a day and my have a light snack in the evening but other than that I’m not hungry near as much as I was when I was lifting like a mad man. I have more energy my runs over the past few weeks have been great too. I wish I would have been up on IF a long time ago but better late than never

A fleeting childhood
lol thats Keto flu, your body has been used to using Carbs\sugars as fuel for years. All of a sudden your changing that up, so once your body has used up the stored glycogen it has to get its energy from elsewhere - your stored fat. That adaption is when your feeling like shyt. But once your passed it, you will be fine.

If you get headaches when your fasting drink some salt water, your prob low on electrolytes.

Just like with anything the more you do it, the more easier it becomes
I tried keto for like 3 weeks. The meal prepping, finding items that are low in carbs if i didnt cook and the foods i ended up eating were my biggest problems. Far easier to go the carb route:yeshrug: . I have a very hectic schedule so meal prepping is almost always out the question unless i wanna start cooking at 4am. Also im dealing with moderately high cholesterol

Going to try this. The 12 to 8pm window.

Reading thru this thread it seems like it's ok if you break your fast as long as you keep a calorie deficit
How strict you are on that depends on whether or not you believe you lose weight faster while in the fast i guess but either way you will still lose weight correct? :lupe:
One thing I will do is drink a lot of water, with increased intake of water will water weight be an issue? What if I use creatine while increasing my water intake?

Yeah you may need to find alternatives, but keto so huge there practically an alternative for everything from rice to bread

I'm so used to it now aint missed normal rice or bread for ages. Keto keeps me far too full to even think about rice or pasta TBH.

Also keto onky raises the HDL cholesterol - the good one. This is always first thing people say when I say how much fat I eat a day. VLDL is the bad cholesterol which is reduced on a high fat diet.

Tons of info and scientific stuff I can share with you if you wanna find out more.

Like i always say on here find out what works for you and can sustain. My way may be easy and works for me dont mean it will work for you.

The more water you drink the more uour body wont hold on to it. That's why you see bodybuilders drinking 6 to 8 gallons of water a day before a show, as your getting so much you body realises it has no need to hold on to so much water

Creatine will break your fast, so best to drink that during feeding window or some bcaas.

Yes ultimately you have to be in a deficit, however your body has no calorie receptors it has no idea what a calorie is. It just knows that certain macros will have a differnt hormanal affect on it.

But yes as your eating window is small you will be more than likely to eat less. The only thing I have come across when talkinh to others who have tried IF is that they stuff themselves during that feeding window thus over eating. So watch out for that.

Best way woukd be to ease into of. Skip breakfast first for q few days, then lunch etc see how you feel and get on. You been used to eating multiple meals for years so goinh to a few will be a big change

I needed to see this. For the past couple of weeks I've been basically on IF but in the sense that I eat one meal a day and get a couple snacks in (I'd wager I'm eating about 1500 calories a day. The MyFitnessPal app on my phone said I should aim for 1980). I've upped water intake to about 1/2 to 3/4 of a gallon -- it basically constitutes 90 percent of what I drink now, the rest is either low-calorie Gatorade or Sweet Tea -- and I'm exercising more.

But I noticed that the weight loss stopped/plateaued. I assume it's water weight but I couldn't understand why I was retaining it more (I noticed that I wasn't going to the bathroom as regularly as I was when I first got on this).

Perhaps I'm not eating enough, but I think I need to add more water to the equation.

Dont stress about it though lol, its quite minimal so doubt it will ruin your progress.

Many sip on BCAAs whilst fasting and swear by it

I’m just experimented on myself so much in six years I’ve dabbled in a lot.

@BrehWyatt it could be a lot of things:

You are eating more than you estimate you are

You are eating close to 1,500 cals and working out more and your body is generally holding on to what it can in that big of lack of cals

Also how long has the plateau been going?

Plateau has been for a few days.

Basically, a few weeks back I got up to almost 270 and was like :whoa: so I attacked it with exercise and changing up eating habits.

In the first week and a half, I dropped like five pounds. Had been as low as 258.5 as of this past Sunday, typically hover around 262 (which is where I am now).

I'm sure a good bit -- maybe not all, but certainly a considerable majority of it -- of that was water weight, which would explain how I threw some of it back on so quickly. That said, despite what the scale says, things do fit me a little differently. For example, I'm dangerously close to having to basically buy new work pants and boxers, etc. (I've passed this point already if I'm being honest but I'm being lazy about it because clothes don't pique my interest like that).

Always the best indication something is working, more than likely your losing fat whilst keeping/building muscle - remember muscle takes less space than fat

Plateu of a few days isnt really much tbh a few weeks yeah, but days aint too much to worry about it. Just think at least it isnt going up.

Stepping on the scales every day will yield different results. Its not linear, it doesn't constantly go day every day due to many things. Food you ate that day, you been toilet before you stepped on, how much water intake, time of day.

Something is clearly working for you as you alluded to regarding your clothes, so keep at it and dont get too bogged down by the number on the scale.

Yeah, I've been focusing on the scale number more than I should, and that might be hurting me. When I first started dropping weight, the only way I knew something was happening was due to how things fit. It took other people noticing how I looked before I realized my effort wasn't going to waste. End game is to drop 25-30 more pounds and gain some toning/definition in my arms/chest.

Problem with that is I'm trying to stick with exercises I would be able to sustain long-term. From what I've been told/reading, weight-lifting is the best option in that regard but I don't like it enough to stick with it regularly. So I have to find better resistant/strength-training exercises.

Nothing better than when someone comments on your weight loss or body recomp
:banderas:

You dont you like lifting ?
:gucci:

Jokes aside, there are other options you can do to build muscle, like you said resistant training with bands or even bodywork stuff.

You dont wanna lose all that weight with not much muscle to uncover, plus whilst you big you can lift heavier. The leaner you get your strength will zap, not matter what you do.
