I think it’s time we stopped talking about Dems like they are a monolith.
I’m talking specifically about the leadership.

But everything you wrote in your post makes my
Point that Dems don’t really want power, even stronger. It’s too much of a headache to actually inact policies, and much easier to have a few voices be the vocal opposition.

I think it’s time we stopped talking about Dems like they are a monolith. There are 50 senators from very different states with very different constituents.

Manchin and Sinema and a few others are probably making the bet that their constituents won’t reward them for passing progressive policies and in the case of Manchin, he’s probably right. They may as well side with their sugar daddies who will reward them.

Politicians are just the conduits of right wing voter’s scarcity mentality and racial resentment politics.

Think of the burden placed on Dem politicians to expand Medicaid and Medicare to red states in this bill and poor white people and old white people will still vote for Mitch McConnel and Rand Paul types. :heh:

But the thing is... Manchin and Sinema campaigned on quite a few things in this package. Like Medicaid.

Manchin said we should spent $4 trillion on infrastructure 8 months ago.

Plus, both of them are not even up for re-election until 2024.

I don't think reelecton is even the issue. Sinema's actions are actually hurting her in the polls (and might get her primaried), not helping her.

Exclusive first look: Kyrsten Sinema has dangerously low favorability among Arizona Democrats

As far as Manchin, he's 74 and may not even run again considering his age, and I'm pretty sure that Senate seat is gone when he retires regardless of what he does.

It's hard to see how their actions benefit them politically. My only guesses are either they're corrupt or secret Republicans.

Both of them are looking for their next move. Manchin is old but will have his pick of corporate gigs.

Sinema is young and clearly cosplaying as a Senator to get her big payday after 2024 or whenever she leaves the Senate.

I'm tired. I've said this recently but my will to vote is almost completely gone.

My stepfather (a reliable Democratic middle-aged Black voter) is saying the same thing :francis:
It keeps being Harped on, but the best thing you can do is not divorce yourself from the National process. Get active in your community and support the causes you believe in and those that believe in those causes. The political establishment ain’t moving in the next few years but there is a fight for the future and you can get involved that way, while being a healthy critique of the status quo.

Most of the divisions should really be separate bills:yeshrug:

Shorter bills, with lower costs attached, are far less likely to contain “poison pills”… and I’d suspect easier to get passed.

…it would also show exactly where the lines are being drawn.

Dems do it to themselves.

The House has done that in 2019 and 2021.

You need to remove the filibuster for that in the Senate.

That's dumb. Republicans (including Manchin and Sinema) would vote against the bills regardless of how big they are.

Progressives need to stand firm that if no reconciliation is done for the 3.5 trillion bill they will not vote for the bipartisan 1.5 trillion bill. These centrist ain’t shyt
Do thar and make a narrative push in the media and social media. “Make your congressman support Biden’s agenda,” in those states.
