I can't say I'm shocked.

He's dikk riding ____who loves attention.

And has always been one, since day 1.
Days after Biden won and the Dems were going to control the senate, Manchin was on Fox saying that he wasn’t going to allow the Dems to go spend crazy with a bunch of social programs. I knew it then.

WH only just now does anything to resemble fighting for the bill after Manchin's sabotage. :deadmanny:
Dems seems to revel in being fired up from the losing side.

Anyway, I bet the negotiation went something like this…

Biden: So if we pass BIF and we let you negotiate BBB down as much as you want, we can count on you for a yes right huh Joe?

Manchin: Yes. Yes, absolutely sir.

Biden: Great to hear my friend. Now Joe, if you don’t play ball on BBB you know I’m gonna getcha in the press right? If you don’t vote yes I’m gonna go after ya. My whole administration will.

Manchin: Ok. :unimpressed:

Biden: Wonderful. :smugbiden: Now you take care buddy. :snooze:

Manchin: :mjlol:

Remember that when progressives didn't want to trust Manchin on BBB but Biden said he could get his vote, Manchin said, "Hey, it says a lot about you that you can't even trust our president. :hubie:"

And then Manchin pulls this shyt after the BIF passed. :laff:

Another :trash: take from Matt Yglesias.

Liberals always love to throw out that excuse that you can't criticize Manchin because "b-b-but what if he becomes a Republican? :lupe:"

That's BS because Manchin is a dikkriding fakkit who loves the attention, and if he switches parties he's just some dude again. Not to mention he'd never win a Republican primary after voting to impeach Trump twice.

Manchin was never going to be a Yes.

i read what you wrote but i disagree because of the 1st sentence here. Manchin was never a "Yes" and shaming him and being tough on him does nothing...

That's not what i call trying. For 2022 voters who are on the fence want to see results. How can you build a more robust majority when you have zero to hang your hat on?

White house should have been going in on manchin 6 months ago, administration failed.

But what does it do? Nobody here can actually give a solution because there isn't one. Not just you... but any of us. That was always the problem. The question was will Manchin play ball and we have 11 months of evidence he will not. A 50/50 split gave him the power to show his true GOP colors.

Biden and Manchin served together for two decades. If someone told me someone I worked with that long would stab me in the back I wouldn’t believe them.

Best case scenario is Biden works him the way Manchin did him.

...yeah this was the whole point of my post. As I said, Manchin was never going to be a Yes. So either you point that out by being combative or you bury it by being conciliatory. I'm arguing that being combative is the better path because at least you can marshal anger and direct it towards political activity. Biden's conciliatory strategy just makes him look like a weak idiot and does nothing to help the political fortunes of the Democrats. The problem is the Democratic establishment isn't willing to call out the cancerous elements within the party, they just default to the "elect more Democrats!" refrain so they can continue reaping in fundraising cash and not have to do the hard work of actually governing.

This dude has the WOAT takes. I'm beyond sick of that liberal "just eLeCk m0r3 d3mZ!" bullshyt. You elect more Dems you get more Joe Manchins, not less.
Not sure about that. If the Dems had 55 instead of 51 seats this does not matter and Biden passes the bill going away.

We need more democratic senators next year. Dog fight time.

I disagree. :yeshrug:

Remember when they tried to get the $15 minimum wage in the ARP it wasn't just Manchin (or even Sinema) that voted against it. Eight Democrats voted no on the minimum wage increase. Eight. And there was no reason for them to do it because it needed 60 votes anyway.

So what does that tell you? Because that tells me that there are at least six--if not more--Democrats in the Senate who look at what Manchin and Sinema are doing and going :myman::salute: behind closed doors.

And the seats that Democrats would be trying to win in 2022 are in states like Florida, Ohio and Iowa, all states that Trump won. If the logic behind Manchin is that he has to act this way because he's in a Trump state, why would it be any different for a Dem Senator from those states? Even if you argue that Trump didn't win by as big a margin there, that still doesn't explain the excuses people make for Sinema: "Yeah, Biden won Arizona and it has another Dem Sentator, so it's trending blue, but it's not trending that blue, so she still has to block Dem priorities to keep her seat."
