all the journalists are finding breaking news on twitter and social media. :gucci:

the media gets it's photos, videos, audio, witnesses and sources from people on social media.

do an experiment, check your local newspaper top 5 stories and see if it wasn't on social media before it was published.
You really asked people on The Coli to do independent research in good faith? :mjlol:

A lot of these posters live in trash a$$ towns with a population of 5k or less. Of course their townships journalists rely on twitter.
I get more info about going on NYC than what the news media provides. people constantly add important context and corrections to news reported on in NYC.

there was a recent story about a lady hit and killed while riding her bike by a truck. none of the news articles even mentioned that the truck wasn't even legally allowed to drive on that street.

NYC reporters constantly cite postings and videos sourced from twitter, instagram, facebook , youtube and reddit.

Chicago media tears into Lightfoot as she 'ignores' major suppression

The Chicago media is tearing into Democratic Mayor Lori Lightfoot.
Members of the local press are chastising her for ignoring journalists' criticism of her decision to move away from traditional police scanners toward the use of an encrypted radio frequency.

Critics argue the new encrypted system will deter their ability to learn about dangers to public safety and be inaccessible to Chicagoans, according to a report.
"Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s administration has refused to meet with members of the Chicago media who have voiced concern this will impact journalists’ ability to cover events as they unfold and warn the public about ongoing threats to safety," one Chicago-based outlet railed.
"We are a coalition of Chicago-area news organizations concerned with this planned encryption and are sharing our concerns to raise awareness about how the City’s plan will impact our ability to provide timely, accurate, and potentially life-saving news to you," a public letter on behalf of multiple news agencies read.

Police and emergency radio is what reporters use here 1st, as a means to report news.. Our beloved liberal mayor wants to stop that. Not saying Chicago reporters don't use social media at all, but their number one source was scanners. The reporters where you live don't have this option?

There is no other social media platform that comes near enough to Twitter and no other media has the ability to spread messages so fast. The UK & many other Western governments are not prepared for a post Twitter world. I think contingency plans will now speed up. China is happy

yeah reporters here listen to NYPD transmissions but i wasn't thinking of that when i made my comment because theres lots of news stories sourced from twitter that doesn't involve the police. in fact the police nationwide use social media to investigate crimes caught on viral video that already happened but wasn't reported at the time.
