Prob wouldn’t be the case to this extent if XXX, Pop, and Juice WRLD ain’t die :jbhmm:
Those guys wouldn’t even be Travis/Future level

Maybe tier 3 mainstream at best (Uzi Vert, Young Thug, 21 Savage, Kodak, Lil Dirk, Youngboy, Carti)

Yak ain’t mainstream no more it’s been a minute too.

I disagree for example Juice WRLD did 165,000 first week and nearly half a mill first week posthumously.

The whole genre has overstayed it's welcome if we being honest.

Young folks gotta create something new or at least make something old new again (like people tried with house).

Rap is a gen-x'er/millenial genre started by boomers. That's why the legends and the people who currently run it are primarily from those generations.

Kendrick and Drake will be/ are in GOAT discussions, dont know about Jcole, could never get into his music

Kendrick prolly havin his biggest year ever

he represents hip hop to the fullest in a present where sales, cloud ngoing viral (w/e u wanna call it) are the most important things for the new generation

Drake is prolly the biggest artist in any genre in the world since Michael Jackson, he been droppin hits n number ones for like 15 years straight

OP askin this question is like if people questioned other people for listenin to MJ or Prince in the 90s when they had been droppin classics since the 80s

This needs to be talked about more. Add Nipsey to the mix and you had four potential stars killed off in less than two years. Hip hop still hasn't recovered because these guys were supposed to be the new standard bearers.

Imagine Drake, Kendrick, or Cole dying in 2010/2011. It's almost the equivalent to that.
Nip was ascending in a mainstream sense but he hadn’t reach that level yet had he lived it would have been interesting to see how he built off the Victory Lap success. Honestly, COVID really killed the music industry shyt hasn’t been the same, they turned the water off on mad acts.

I think XXX, Juice WRLD, Pop Smoke and I’ll add King Von’s death and Pooh Shiesty getting locked up that had a huge effect. Those artists were set to run shyt for Gen Z and their influence and artistry would have trickled down.

Real shyt the next great group of Rap stars might end up being gen alpha. Gen Z is running out of time for a HOF status rapper to pop off
