I don't think they "had" to do anything. But when you have a console that consistently sells and switches have consistently sold since they've came out year after year regardless of the hate, it's good practice for them to be like "we got you".
I have my og 3 and I had a 4 for years. I've personally never ever had an issue with drift. Only time I heard of it aside from people throwing their controllers was on switch. When I read the story about the dualsense drifting I started asking everyone I know and they are like
I've had 4 ps3 controllers and 3 ps4 controllers they suck."
And to top if off you can't even get PlayStation branded controllers anymore only 3rd party. What kind of bullshyt is that?
I don't have hate for any system or company but Nintendo didn't invent drift. Even though I didn't want to send mine in during the time before rona when turnaround was less than 7 days, I ordered off Amazon and fixed mine in 15mins and updated the slide locks for less than 15 bucks. It was worth it for me to do cause between the household it was easily getting least 6-8 of gameplay.
