I don’t believe so, Hillary wasn’t seen as a continuation of Obama by many I assume. Bill Clinton’s third term maybe.

I believe that America was in a relatively good place during the Obama years which bred complacency. I think that is why turnout was low.

And generally speaking people were unenthused and you are right the media for the most part downplayed Trump's chances of winning.
