He did stuff like that in Hong Kong for a long time. Police Story was the standout but he’s almost died a few times from stunts. The Armour of God one when the tree branch broke was the one that caused him to have emergency brain surgery.

I think he just did lighter stuff later on because he was older and his body couldn’t do the same things anymore, and I don’t think he can do those stunts in American films anyway due to insurance.

He did this in Who Am I when he was in his mid 40s

I think it preceded Jackie blowing up in the west. This was the film that made him BIG in China but it wasn’t until Rumble In The Bronx where he broke out in the the US. And that was years later.
