I just want to see him reach for a bench one last time, that's not too much to ask for :to:

To be honest I could have done without the majority of the death defying stunts and more of the serious hand to hand combat. It always seemed to me that the majority of his American movies were built more on hijinx rather than showing his true capabilities as a martial artist
In a lot of ways I find the comedy infused martial arts of Jackie far more entertaining than any ultra serious martial arts actors. There is a genius to what Jackie does that no one else can do. Like imagine if Jim Carrey was a martial artist, combining the physical comedy chops with action. It just works. Plus in a lot of his movies he has one or two “serious” fights usually with the villain of the film

I really thought Tony Jaa had next but all it did was show how far Jet Li and Jackie Chan are above the rest of the field.

Jackie could pick entertaining scripts while he was in his prime. After Ong Bak and The Protector he picked terrible ass sequels :sadcam:Should've followed the Donnie Yen blue print at least:wow:

Yeah man, that road isn't for everyone. Tony Jaa seems happier making American and Chinese $$ and being a supporting actor. I remember he quit the last Ong Bak film because he was so stressed and they had to convince him to come back.

Donnie Yen was always the 2nd lead in the 90s. He had to take on TV roles and he wrote and directed his own films to get more experience as a leading man. Those films bombed, so he took on supporting roles and then his career didn't take off until his early 40s. Tony Jaa is nearing his mid 40s already...

I always wondered what happened to Tony Jaa

I remember in college mid-00s I went on a date to see the protector and I was being a know-it-all ass nygga tellin my chick "that jet li/jack chan shyt done-ski! Tony Jaa the new king! :myman:"

Maaaaan that mf'er dropped off the face of the earth :mjlol: and jason stathan basically jacked his i-got-next spot for those Americanized martial arts action romp joints that Jet Li ate well off of in the early 00s.

15 years later I'm seein Tony Jaa in direct to DVD cop thrillers with geriatric Ivan Drago n shyt

Even in his weaker films his ability to beat your ass with literally anything laying around him from umbrellas to buckets to fukking ladders and park benches is just :banderas:

I also really enjoyed the first Shanghai Noon, the fights were actually on point, I found out years later they were choreographed by Yuen Biao. Crazy that the second Shanghai flick gave us Donnie Yen vs Jackie all those years ago.

This hurt me, i miss this era of action movies. Actual bad-assess instead of fukking Tom Holland. The main villain would whoop your ass and sent you to the training room.

Movies like this created fighting games. Now that these movies are dried up fighting games ran out of innovation. :patrice:
