If Lamar Jackson looked like Jalen Hurts would he get the credit he deserves?

That right there is the reason. People are falling in love with the story line.

Truth is
He has an above average O-Line.
He has one of the best RBs in the league.
He has one of the best TEs in the league.
He has one of the best WR corps in the league.
He has one of the best coaches in the league.

Purdy is a legit starter, but he is not elite and is not an MVP QB by any means. He is surrounded by talent. It's his story that everybody is attached to because we love underdogs.

Somebody like Mahomes early was surrounded by talent as well, but we all could tell dude was elite. He has nothing right now and is still putting up decent numbers.
Agree on all this except the coaching....... that office made concerted effort after the Kapernick era to improve and whiten that team. The coach is just a beneficiary of a ridiculous pool of talent

Even if you take looks out of the equation and just go by strictly voice, Hurts has a certain sultriness, while Lamar sound like he's just getting over a cold

Not to up Hurts but he has more playoff Ws than Lamar. Lamar been playing more healthy this year but had some injuries last couple years. He gonna need to make it to the SB this year for him to get his props and credit. I think this may be the year for him unless he lays an egg or be the reason why his team looses a game this year.

And as far as how he talks, dress and carry himself....Lamar isn't as polished as Hurts, Vick, Dak, etc. but he gives u "around the way" vibes and I actually like that because it makes him more relatable.

I also like that Lamar has nothing bad on his record....(well I don't think) like Jameis Winston and DeSean Watson (Mr. Nasty) has.

Hurts VS Jackson is about the stereotypes of black men...

Hurts comes from the perceived 2 parent home...he went to a prestigious public PWI in the Deep South as a qb and is in a HBCU founded BGLO. He sports the clean cut look and is without faults...

Jackson comes from a single parent home...he went to a mid range PWI school in the South as a QB. He sports the look of the HipHop culture and plays for one of the most vicious football team orgs in NFL history.

Both play ball for NFL teams in very black cities.

It's clear as day why Hurts gets more love than Jax and it ain't skin complexion.

Hurts has the perceived stereotypical accepted look of a qb who is the face of the team.

Lamar broke the system and everybody was mad this black man negotiated his paycheck without an agent and is still winning with old wrs. He has yet to get a pure number 1 wr OBJ is a true 1 but them years seem behind him as a true 1 threat.

That's the reason.

You build around Lamar and give him weapons and he will put up Brees numbers and still walk 1,000 rushing.

Don't know if this is a troll thread but it's true that he's not as likeable to a wider group of people (old people, middle of America cacs and whatnot) cause he's not as media friendly, well-spoken, media trained and on.

But his fan base is a lot bigger than Jalen Hurts, Dak and on. The kids love him.

Other than that, NFL is a lot about the SB and he's yet to visit. On a technical level, I think as a non-traditional QB (although he's getting a lot more traditional) you have a steeper hill to climb before you get your flowers unless you win it all.

Very true, but that really has nothing to do with his coaching though. Football isn't like basketball. An NFL team can be the most talented ever, but a shytty coach can still squander it. A la Chip Kelly & the Eagles

I gotta give Kyle Shanahan his credit. He tricked some people into believing Jimmy G was Tom Brady and brought them to a Super Bowl.

It’s no secret Lamar has been been doubted and undermined his whole career, even now when he’s the clear MVP. Part of me feels that if he looked like hurts he’d get more respect

He doesn't get credit because he crashes in the playoffs and gets hurt a lot.

Obligatory :dame: but OP is right.

QBs are expected to be handsome, confident, charismatic. Basically the “men want to be him women want to be with him” dude. That’s the game.

Lamar is ugly as fukk and talks like he has a speech impediment. He doesn’t look like a QB in any way.

Hurts just has a better PR team. A better story so more people gravitate towards him.

His HS head coach was his dad.

Played at Bama got benched. Made a comeback and almost won the Heisman at another school.

Got drafted and was never actually expected to play a down of football and took a team to the SuperBowl.
There is a little something to this.

Lamar had his mom handling his affairs.

Meanwhile Jalen had her
