If Nas died it would be a gloomy day in Hip Hop. There will probably NEVER be another Artist for the genre who so perfectly captured moments in time so vividly with his words.

First and foremost, Lemme be clear in saying I don't wish death on these cats.

That said, if they died, how do you think their legacy would be viewed?

Unlike with Pac and Biggie, they have both been able to go through ups and downs in a 15+ year career. Will they been seen as the Best? How will their legacy stand the test of time? And what about other cats that are mentioned as greats (e.g. LL, Eminem, Rakim, etc.)

both would get overrated like the stack bundles n big ls

Jay-Z is already a livin legend, he'll be held in high regards musically for a long time.

While Nas is a livin legend, he isn't as universally accepted/popular as Jay-Z. I don't think some listeners will fully appreciate Esco's work until after death, sadly.

Where Ever The Best Stuff On Earth Is.
no it wasnt

When Freaky Zeaky got shot that morning on Flava Videos Bobby Simmons man kept screaming "Who shot Freaky?" and he was holding up the copy of the Daily News with those exact words on the front of the paper.

Bottom line saying Jay and Bey were on the cover of the NY news paper doesnt mean sh*t cuz Freaky got the cover and he was an absolute nobody even tho he was at the highlight of his career.

Sure it was
NY daily news cover
"WHO SHOT FREEKEY?"

That was a very well known moment. Why people would speak on things they know not is beyond me.

No Nas hate but if Hov died the internet would be dead from people trying to post shyt in mins... Hov has the bigger impact & his death would gather more people from all races that's like damn, Jay-Z really died. True rap fans would be saddened from Nas death but it wouldn't be the same as Hov passing. Just being honest

It will hit main stream media for Jay-Z cause he got a lot of pink friends. Nas isnt as mainstream but it will still register...when Heavy D dies I think they talked about it on MSNBC.

heavy d was a bigger mainstream name than nas.

not saying nas wont get a mention on msnbc, but im just saying......

God forbid but whichever one dies first will have the bigger hype in death in the same pattern as Pac had over Biggie.

pac was a bigger & more intriguing entity than biggie, regardless of who died first.

but here's the thing. no one REALLY grew with Pac or Big as an artist.

They just weren't around that long.

When Big and Pac died it hit home for me because I had seen their careers grow. But honestly, that growth was like 5 years or so. I remember hearing Pac spit on "Same Song" and I was like.

:whoo:

But still, just 6 years later he was dead.
I've been hearing Nas, spit for 20 years - Jay for like 18.

6 years is a long time, especially for a rap artist back when longevity actually meant something. and he was mad active thru that whole timeframe.

and how did people not grow up with pac? from the humpty dance to hail mary, there are people that pretty much went thru middle & high school during that whole period.

out of those 18 & 20 years with jay & nas, how many of those years were they actually killin it?

nyc heads, whos more important out there?

is jay or nas bubbling more in the ny streets?

the days of jay and nas bubbling in the streets are long gone. people still get hyped for jay concerts tho.

thats why i dont understand why people talk about them relentlessly on here, like its 2002 or something. ranks right up there with the east/west rivalry still brewing on sohh in 2010.

he has already been thrusted in peoples minds as a default top 5 pick, despite the fact that he only has 1 real classic album. what more do you want? lol.

While Dwight has more accolades in acting and writing themeshows, do not fool yourself into thinking Nas aint well known mainstream. If this were 1992 I would agree with you...but it aint RIP Heav

Maybe I'm dating myself, but since when is 6 years truly considered growing up with a person's music. I'm not saying it doesn't play a role but how can you possible compare 6 yrs to 18?

BTW, out of those 6, Pac was NOT killing it kid. 2Pacaplyspe now is NEVER mentioned in the same breath as Illmatic, Reasonable Doubt or Ready to Die.

So in reality, Pac, for example was killing it, MAYBE 3-4 yrs. It's 2012 and there are like 10 threads of 100 posts or more devoted to Nas. Many are calling his latest album a classic. And this aint online. I know people of multiples races, aged 13 - 50 that are praising this album.

And don't forget, it was just last year when WTT got some pretty damn good press too.

Bottom line: While they haven't killed it ALL the time they're out, they've killed it a bunch.

i didnt say nas isnt well-known. i just said hes not as known as heavy d. if youre gonna butt into somebody else's convo, at least be on point.

if somebody went thru middle & high school to your music, how is that not growing up with the artist?

i never said he was on top all those 6 years, i said that he was killing it. he was a big deal. thats all.

please save the slick insults. im in the streets homebwoy. yes, jay & nas are still relevant, mostly because their chit still gets pushed. lets be real, only their diehard fans get amped up for their releases. outside of american gangster, we know that jay has been :scusthov: since he came out of retirement. and especially nas, who hasnt had chit on smash since 2003. hes basically an internet fave at this point. sure, youre still going to hear people playing their music. everybody has diehard fans that stick it out with them thru the years. but these dudes aint been king fish in years.

lol @ WTT got alot of good press last year. you sound like you get caught up in the hype. and thats all that corny album was - HYPE!!

Why are we debating over who would get the bigger funeral like its some sort of roundtable discussion
Jay would obviously get more mainstream media headlines and Twitter younglings making RIP hashtags than if Nas died.

Nas would get less of that but an equal amount of support from deep-rooted hip-hop fans and celebrities
