First and foremost, Lemme be clear in saying I don't wish death on these cats.

That said, if they died, how do you think their legacy would be viewed?

Unlike with Pac and Biggie, they have both been able to go through ups and downs in a 15+ year career. Will they been seen as the Best? How will their legacy stand the test of time? And what about other cats that are mentioned as greats (e.g. LL, Eminem, Rakim, etc.)

They would be a lot of "All the good ones are gone" talk and we would have to deal with the mt. rushmore of Hip-Hop for a certain age bracket all not being with us.

I think PAC and big dying so young added to their legacy almost like an air of mystery..what could have been

Not that jay and Nas' body of work haven't added to their legacies

The last body of work Jay-Z put out that was worth putting into rotation came out 5 years ago

but here's the thing. no one REALLY grew with Pac or Big as an artist.

They just weren't around that long.

When Big and Pac died it hit home for me because I had seen their careers grow. But honestly, that growth was like 5 years or so. I remember hearing Pac spit on "Same Song" and I was like.

:whoo:

But still, just 6 years later he was dead.
I've been hearing Nas, spit for 20 years - Jay for like 18.

No one would care. Biggie & 2Pac were "rivals" who were murdered at the heights of their careers. It was good tv and tragic as well.

Jay-Z & Nas are 40 plus. Their deaths wouldn't have any impact on anything.

I HATE that. I think their deaths caused people to overhype, overrate, and kinda become irrationally attached to their albums and their legacy. When you hear people talk about their era it almost sounds mystical. I'm sorry, but you can't rank stuff that doesn't exist. You can't listen to it. It isn't tangible. You can not tell me straight up that Biggie having two good-great albums puts him over dudes with at least 3-5 good-great albums because he died early. Sorry:yeshrug:

Also, no one new or recent would be able to crack the top 5 no matter how good they are throughout their career cause then Pac, Big, Jay and Nas would be top locks.
