Folks who are from places like NY or LA or these big major areas can't really appreciate how low the cost of living some places can be due to the low quality of life. Places like MS and AL are some of the lowest quality of life you can find.

I lived in Mississippi for years after hurricane Katrina while I was in high school and college. It’s not much opportunity out there, a career job out there is Walmart or working fast food for most of the citizens.
They should not be competing with illegals for a job. A lot of Mississippi cities use to have factories like paper mills and shyt and they wasn’t needed no more the city economy died.

The cost of the living is super low there tho so it’s evens it self out. You can easy find a 2 bed room house for 450 dollars in Mississippi, a per in nyc making 80k will have 2 roommates
That still doesn't bring much of social mobility. Why not UNIONIZE and make $35 an hour off of the same work?

Someone having a 12 dollar a hour job in Mississippi will save more then have like 30 a hour in San Fran, the cost of Living is low so that’s gonna have the pay low.
