Strawman argument. Celebrating an increase in Black employment and wages here doesn't mean you oppose fighting for reparations.

There's literally no logic to your framing black employment as incompatible with reparations.

celebrating black ppl only earning minimum wage is like celebrating a black person that knows how to read.

It’s alright to hope and expect for better financial circumstances for black workers. Trust me.

Speaking of not knowing how to read :mjlol: the article says the job pays 57% higher than the local minimum wage and twice the local median income.

11.40 an hour which equates to around 23k per person. The average income per person in Morton Mississippi is 12,556 dollars according to the census.

But the opportunity to earn more than $11 an hour can still turn heads in this part of Mississippi. Mr. Grant was not the only person to jump at the chance the raids provided. Niah Hill, manager of the Sonic Drive-In in Morton, said 10 of her workers quit soon after the raid at Koch Foods.

“When they heard about the raids they all went over there and got jobs right away,” Ms. Hill said. Carhops at this Sonic make $4.25 an hour — three dollars less than the state’s minimum wage — plus tips, she said.

Then there was Mr. Grant, only two years out of high school and still finding his way in the world. He said it felt good to be earning $11.23 an hour, even if the new job entailed cutting off necks and pulling out guts on a seemingly endless conveyor of carcasses. It was about $4 better, he said, than what he used to earn at a Madison County cookie factory.

With his better wage, he was starting to finally save a little. He talked about buying a used Honda, and about getting serious with his girlfriend.

chicken jobs...

that's what yall want us to strive for?:francis:
This is such an idiotic talking point and downright white liberal elitist...

Nobody is striving for a fukking chicken job, everybody got to start somewhere generating income...

Any job is better than being worthless and unemployed...

To further add to that, higher education is what opens the door to better paying jobs and that costs money...

How do you expect poor rural folk in Mississippi to pursue a higher education if they have no income ? Our white liberal savior uncle Bernie is going to pay for it? :martin:

There's no point in arguing with these pro-illegal folks. They're incorrigible.

In their minds, there's no onus on the illegal immigrant to fight the greater system of "bosses and predatory capitalism". Illegal immigrants are not held accountable for their actions in this dynamic, nor is the illegal's attitude and opinion of the displaced American worker of any concern. A poor black Missisipan has more effective agency to the liberal and more of a moral obligation to fight the system than the illegal immigrant does.

By absolving the illegal of any agency or ability to do harm, it makes the white liberal feel good about himself that he's providing a better life for someone.

illegals, of course, are highly capable individuals with agency and working minds but unfortunately for the black worker, many of them are just as regressive and protectionist as the racist, white working class. There's no strong workers solidarity there much less one that would be capable of pressuring for better wages and working conditions across the board. So it's not just their status as undocumented that makes them a hindrance.

No blame for the people who hire these illegals. This raid was done on a business that is own by the koch family. They are Republicans yet one of there business hired a bunch of illegal immigrants.

Spot on.

Another thing that stood out too is when he said hes finally getting serious about his girlfriend.

Alot of people cant connect the dots. Broken families are an extension of a broken economy. As soon as he sees himself capable of providing for a family he's ready to move in that direction.

$11.50/hour is want you'd offer a highschool student intern. look at inflation and the cost of basic goods and services. the fact that 11.50/hour is a improvement upon a lot of workers previous wages is a travesty. these people need some guidance to fight for better wages, they on the ground floor of a billion dollar industry and should get fair wages reflecting that.
with increased experience comes leverage.

they're starting over down there and with more citizen labor, then bosses can't get away with the sorts of labor abuses they do with illegals

Illegal immigration is a new culture war designed to keep the plebes fighting each other, while business owners reap the benefits of cheap labor.

The fact the Trump knowingly had illegal immigrants working in his resorts up until a few months ago when a whistleblower came out, should tell you everything you need to know.

That’s why holding employers accountable or implementing universal e-verify system is never talked about.

The business owners get their cheap labor and the politicians and scumbags like Nap get their whipping boy.

^^^ mississippi is the poorest state in the country and has been for decades, making over 10 dollars an hour there is a big deal.

hopefully that puts this discussion into context a little better.
https://www.thecoli.com/posts/36070360/

Mississippi has among the highest white-to-black unemployment rates :whoo:

State unemployment by race and ethnicity

I wonder what black unemployment in mississippi is :sas2:

Black unemployment is at least twice as high as white unemployment at the national level and in 14 states and the District of Columbia

Unemployment rate for African Americans in Mississippi is significantly higher than white unemployment rate

As of July 2019, Unemployment in MS is 8.2% for blacks and 2.8% for whites...
