You can’t rewrite history. We’ve got all the receipts that say that not only did Jay lose handily, his entire crew admitted it. Dame Dash, Biggs, Beanie Sigel, and Memphis Bleek are all record saying that Jay lost and was under pressure.

Didn't he hear Beyonce playing Ether? :russ:

A rare few stans think Jay won, but this thread has exposed me to a new sneakier stannery, the ones pretending like it wasn't a clearcut victory on Nas part but a more arguable middle ground. They're a more dangerous bunch because if you weren't around you might believe them.

156k debuted at 18. Huge year
That was on a short week. The album got bootlegged and they pushed it up. Was supposed to come out on Tuesday and they bumped it up to Friday. I might be off on that but that's how I remember it. The album is platinum also.

A good fight that ends in a KO is still a clear victory.

Ether was a KO. But if you weren't around listening to nikkas compare this to pedo-gate 2024 you might think it was a one sided fight.

Negativity (Kayfabe)
Jay reached even higher heights. Not to mention siging him

How do you sign someone to a label you don't own? :pachaha:

If anything, Nas coming to Def Jam was a good look for Jay-Z's bosses.

Ya'll keep trying to make it the same thing as Nas signing Quan to Ill Will Records.

True, plus up until Ether (which took about three months) it wasn't a guarantee that Nas would bounce back.

Like they said in that Sway interview, after Takeover it felt like Jay had a Nas in a headlock, then with Ether he lit a fuse.

The reason those were compared is because timeline wise those were the songs that lined up. Takeover was a response to Stillmatic freestyle
Oh I know. I'm just saying when people reference that vote they always state is as people voting that Ether was better than Takeover and use that to say it's proof that Ether was better. I was just clearing up that misconception. Super Ugly was rushed and a sloppy response and that's why Jay lost.

Yep but mainly because Ether was scorching too
