That's why I said adapt "Kingdom Come". It perfectly addresses this exact argument.
I feel you on everything you're saying but you can't anti-hero certain characters. Some characters are just "good guys", like Captain America or Superman. And "The Winter Soldier" was :whew: so it's obviously possible to make a compelling good guy movie. I liked "Man Of Steel" but it didn't feel like a Superman movie.

The problem is is that no one bytched at captain america for killing nazis or running around clapping people with a pistol.

Man of Steel touched on the isolation and searching for a greater purpose that many writers only briefly touch upon. They had to go with a different approach because Singer tried to make Brandon Routh be Reeves in Superman Returns and it didn't perform to well.

Well yeah but....that's Nazis breh. I mean....Cap is such a good guy one of his main villains (Red Skull) is a Nazi.

Nobody is going to complain about someone killing a bunch of Nazis. It's not even going to make him seem "dark" or edgy. He's the quintessential hero for that.

There is ways to explore Superman without turning him into an anti-hero, like you said.

Plus the fact is Captain America at the end of the day is a man facing an army of Nazis who very well could kill, areas Superman doing the same is not as impressive because for all intended purposes he is nigh invulnerable.

it's like ppl forget that cap 2 was a huge hit and that captain america is one of the most popular superheroes in the world right now.

the good guy never went out of style. while sopranos and training day were poppin off spiderman was breaking records. good guy cornball tobey maguire.
You may be right.
But I think something like Captain America has appeal to White America and their "us against them" mentality... Maybe that wears off...maybe it doesn't.

One thing I will say about "Man Of Steel" is they finally gave Superman a good villain. Lex is cool but Superman got too many great villains to constantly use the same one over and over.

People love Cap because he is a 100% good guy. Like, he's a legit stand up guy. He's been to war against the U.S. government several times when they were on some bullshyt.

What's funny is the comics actually address people trying to misappropriate his image for the purposes that you're saying....being an American "good ol boy"....and he ain't down with that shyt.

I think people like cap because he makes it cool to be the good guy. marvel did not have to change the character one bit. they just gave him 21st century swag.

Of course he would say this, X-Men was originally about race but Bryan Singer made it about sexuality (at least X1/X2)- this is a fight Ian McKellen has been a part of for a while now.

Superman is clearly about immigration though, so to diss one comic book character to big up another is just stupid. Especially in the modern comics, where Superman has pretty much stood for every cause out there.

So the average person can't relate to the idea of not fitting in and not knowing your place in society? Or the idea of doing what's easy versus what's difficult yet more beneficial? I get this is absolutely pointless "competition" talk but it's so tired. Not to mention the James Bond comparison is asinine. The funniest part is how Marvel stans will flock to this while ignoring how they hate on the X-Men films due to the FOX affiliation. I love McKellen as an actor and think he's a great Magneto, but he's too old to be playing into these stan wars:camby:
