Hoegan was NEVER hip or cool, being popular does not equal cool. Cena is also popular and known around the world with mainstream crossover appeal, is he considered cool? No.
Were you serious with this?

Les face it the WWE... fukk it... the WWF/WCW/ECW boom period happened because of the time period. The 80s and 90s were time periods when we allowed ourselves to be entertained and believed anything they presented to us... those were good times. Then 9/11 happened and once that happened:

1. Everyone became too critical of everything. The smallest of things people complain about.... you know how many things we over looked back in the day? We didn't care, we still watched the show and enjoyed it, now the inner smark marks that's in all of us makes us pay attention to the flaws first THEN what is good... and as much as I love the Botchamania series that don't help matters either.

2. You can't get away with nothing in today's world and it's not just the raunchy stuff that we liked back in the day but simple things like smoking a cigarette and making kids cry when they see their hero losing a match gets tons of negative press.

3. Everything is too reality based. Austin vs McMahon was an EPIC storyline because Austin a fantasy hero was battling against Mr. Mahon a fantasy over bearing boss. Now you got guys like HHH who is really in charge of stuff burying talent because he thinks "they don't have the look so... B+" or Coke Boy burying someone because "He's swiss... who likes the swiss?" shyt like that is bullshyt. No more making storylines of what we want to see and surprises along the way but now its us watching behind the scene drama being told on stage.

Basically there won't be another boom period while us 20+ year olds are still alive, maybe the next generation when our kids grow up will see the boom period we desperately need now.

9/11 changed nothing. The Benoit situation in 2007 did. They got 9/11 movies out and Bin Laden is used in comedy skits to get a laugh 14 years later. The WWE is scared of the Benoit name and association. They ran from it instead of owning it...and they've buried a lot of big money angles to keep Cena looking a certain way too. That killed a lot of loyalty and passion for pro wrestling worldwide.

hogan WAS cool in the 80's though. yea he was essentially superman for the kids, like cena is now, but the people weren't yet jaded to that yet. it felt fresh, it felt real.

peopled LIKED superman back then.

Benoit situation didn't change anything, the product was going to shyt before he did anything, only HBGOAT and few others were left carrying the company

They've catered to the most broad audiences for a while now. Hasn't done much for popularity. Catering to the key demographic of 18-49 males is probably a much better idea. Still won't make it mainstream. Wrestling in general is a niche product. It's even more niche because everyone knows that it's fake and it's damn near impossible to suspend disbelief.

Also it's a wealth of diverse content for people to watch today. The concept of "must see TV" is dead unless you're considering sporting events that aren't predetermined.

Like someone else said, a lot of wrestling fans are ashamed or very insecure about their fandom. That certainly isn't going to help make it mainstream when the current fans don't want to be associated with wrestling.

But it wasn't PG and weak...Michaels wasn't carrying nothing. He went str8 into a white slavery storyline with Bradshaw in the following months.

i think we are all perfectly fine suspending disbelief. but you need to give us a reason.

game of thrones is fake and that show got millions of marks across all demographics. they've created more babyface superstars and heel monsters in the span of 4 seasons than the WWE has in the last 10 years. people from that show blowin up left and right because so many people love them on game of thrones and identify with their characters.

i don't care if you know it's fake, when you see a dude like brock leanar on tv you know you are watchin a bad dude. you BELIVE he could go out there and tear a dude's head off. watchin him in action is fukkin BRUTAL.

you wanna know why it used to be so popular then? because it used to be the whole ROSTER was full of dudes like that. fukkin juiced out roidheads and 400 pound bohemoths, dudes you thought in real life could fukk nikkas up. and they all talked shyt. and when they got mad their fukkin veins would start bulgin. and when they looked into the camera they looked like they wanted to fukkin kill you.

dudes that could pull you in and make you believe in them. when austin said he was the toughest sumbytch in the WWF you believed it and you couldn't wait to see him go out there and whoop someone's ass.

you watch the show today and it is nothing but guys playing generic, boring characters. no depth, no distinction, no PASSION. everything is so carefully micromanaged and overseen that the humanity has been completely sucked out. hence why only the hardcore fans stick around because when new ppl tune in it does nothing to draw them in and make them want more. low quality, low grade, chemically manufactured garbage.

Million Dollar Man fukking with that black kid would get 10 million views now on youtube if he did it in a park, and then that would help boost ratings.
you are so on with that.

but could u imagine the backlash?

"why he gotta be a black kid"
"why it gotta be a basketball"
"this is racist"

deep down you know there's the chance it would happen (and it would come from black AND white ppl). shyt is disgusting.
