they need guys to stay in character. In the '90s there was no internet, so no boards for spoilers or other smarky BS. (I know there were some but it was infinitesimal.) Everything felt real and fun. It's why the nWo was so popular, because it really felt like an invasion from another org. (Plus the genius decision to have Hall come from the crowd, and not an entrance.) Now, people are too self-aware and know it's all fake, but the worst part is WWE is in on the meta-ironist bullshyt too. They need wrestlers doing youtube videos in character, and pranks and shyt. Million Dollar Man fukking with that black kid would get 10 million views now on youtube if he did it in a park, and then that would help boost ratings.

Sad part is that Zack Ryder and Dolph Ziggler was doing the youtube videos with the Z! True Hollywood Stories show they were good at it... even made Zack's dad an interesting character out of it so WWE being WWE of course took all of the credit and buried Zack in an epic way for it. Think anyone else wanna try the youtube route after that?

this is why Brock LEsnar is so big. He makes you believe for a brief period that it's real.

Les face it the WWE... fukk it... the WWF/WCW/ECW boom period happened because of the time period. The 80s and 90s were time periods when we allowed ourselves to be entertained and believed anything they presented to us... those were good times. Then 9/11 happened and once that happened:

1. Everyone became too critical of everything. The smallest of things people complain about.... you know how many things we over looked back in the day? We didn't care, we still watched the show and enjoyed it, now the inner smark marks that's in all of us makes us pay attention to the flaws first THEN what is good... and as much as I love the Botchamania series that don't help matters either.

2. You can't get away with nothing in today's world and it's not just the raunchy stuff that we liked back in the day but simple things like smoking a cigarette and making kids cry when they see their hero losing a match gets tons of negative press.

3. Everything is too reality based. Austin vs McMahon was an EPIC storyline because Austin a fantasy hero was battling against Mr. Mahon a fantasy over bearing boss. Now you got guys like HHH who is really in charge of stuff burying talent because he thinks "they don't have the look so... B+" or Coke Boy burying someone because "He's swiss... who likes the swiss?" shyt like that is bullshyt. No more making storylines of what we want to see and surprises along the way but now its us watching behind the scene drama being told on stage.

Basically there won't be another boom period while us 20+ year olds are still alive, maybe the next generation when our kids grow up will see the boom period we desperately need now.

I want it to get mainstream, I want everyone to be wearing wrestling shirts in public, I want to see it be a huge staple in pop culture. I want it to be cool.

:to:

Why? In it's 100 year history it was only cool for 3 years, 97-99. Stop being insecure

It was huge in the 80s, too.

It was big, no doubt, but cool? Not even close. Woody Allen movies from that time were mocking pro wrasslin as something for inbreds.

Only when Austin presented that MTV VMA award was it officially apart of the cool crowd, notice how just 1-2 years laters no wrestler was invited again, the coolness was over.

It's sad when wrestling fans are crying for it to be cool again, it's not and likely won't be, be secure in yourself and enjoy it

wwf was in with mtv since the 80's bruh, and it was a huge part in the gaining momentum heading into the first wrestlemania. plus look at the celebrities they were gettin involved. cyndi lauper, mr. t... these were cool celebrities. they both fukked with the wwf.

tyson was supposed to ref the hogan/macho SNME event before getting knocked out by buster douglas, so they called an audible instead.

wrestling was hip and mainstream before the late 90's. that just took it to a different level.

Hoegan was NEVER hip or cool, being popular does not equal cool. Cena is also popular and known around the world with mainstream crossover appeal, is he considered cool? No. MTV during the 80's was also a different beast.
