I disagree. They gave up 2 low tier prospects and a middle infielder who wasn’t gonna be on the team the next year for the mvp winner in his prime while Miami eats a chunk of the deal every year. The issue is they never let him play the field even though he’s a far better player when he plays the field and their inability to keep anyone healthy. They went into 2018 with a payroll $31 million lower than 2017 even with him so money isn’t an issue either. The Donaldson, Gallo, Montas, Heaney, Bader for Monty, and a bunch of injured relievers trades though? Those are all firing worthy. This trade would have gotten anyone else fired.
the trade in a vacuum wasn't the issue. This trade would of gotten anyone else fired.
the trade in a vacuum wasn't the issue.
It was the idea of trading for Stanton and then deciding to shave payroll.
If fans knew trading for Stanton would prevent them from doing other things, then of course we don't go after him. In hindsight, if Cashman was internally deciding between Stanton and Harper, we all woulda said go after Harper. He made a bad choice and it was over money when in reality, nothing shoulda stopped him from getting both of them. Instead, Donaldson and Hicks make more AAV than Harper, so clearly it was in the budget, just misused. So Stanton got a lot of hate because it felt like his deal was gonna cost us other guys when in reality, Stanton's salary shouldn't have prevented the Yankees from spending more.
The downside to Stanton now is that he's probably a platoon DH who only bats against lefties. In 2 years when the Marlins money kicks in, he might get released.
They had ellsbury’s $21 million come off the books after 2020 as well so they could’ve easily dealt with 2 years of a higher payroll than they wanted to get Harper and Machado instead of crying poverty while also spending some $69 million on crap in the winter of 2018. No less gets less out of their budget, specifically because their priority is getting value over productionthe trade in a vacuum wasn't the issue.

that's what makes the payroll situation ridiculous. They had ellsbury’s $21 million come off the books after 2020 as well so they could’ve easily dealt with 2 years of a higher payroll than they wanted to get Harper and Machado instead of crying poverty while also spending some $69 million on crap in the winter of 2018. There's maybe 4 players you can argue were a byproduct of the fanbase (other than Judge)When all else fails, blame the fans. Lindsay Adler is a clown. Another member of the Yankee defense team.
Ohtani should go to the Dodgers or Mariners. We can't even dream about the possibility of Ohtani. Not because Ohtani might wanna stay on the West Coast, but because money is tight. fukk outta here.
