I think "Anchorman" = most overrated MOVIE in history. Is it because I'm not white?

I don't see it but whatever by the definition of what dry humor is those shows don't use it.

So when Larry David is in the most outlandish situations. but the show takes the subject matter extremely seriously. just like in Seinfeld. That's not dry humor? Larry David is the VERY DEFINITION of dry humor/wit.

Or when the "there's always money in the banana stand" line is delivered and received with the utmost seriousness and not treated with even so much as a smirk...that's not dry humor? Or Tobias delivering his obviously gay lines seriously.

Arrested Development IS dry humor.

I'll find hundreds of reviews of the show that peg it as so. Even TV Guide has "Dry Humor" as one of the themes for Arrested Development.

But not according to you.

Guess I'll have to take your word for it. :rudy:

We can agree to disagree. I lump Always Sunny, The Office, Arrested, Curb all into the same subgenre. Whatever you want to call it, you can call it.

Is it because they use one camera and the jokes are rapid pace?

But Anchroman is anything but dry humor.

ok :rudy:

That always money in the banana stand line was a callback and if you remember George Bluth was going to hit him after he told him there was money in there but there is no touching in the visiting area. (exaggerated mannerisms)

You could make a case for Larry David/Crub but most of the time he is either yelling or the situation he is in is what makes it funny. Not the way he delivers joke.

No. It's because of the seriousness in which they deal with their subject matter. Regardless of how outlandish it may seem (Arrested Development, Always Sunny). Or how mundane and insignificant it may seem (Seinfeld, Curb)

That's what makes the shows funny.

An episode that centers on the dry cleaners losing your shirt does not work on "Friends" or "How I Met Your Mother." It does on Seinfeld and Curb. Or an episode about your jail bird father living in your attic for that matter wouldn't work on "Friends" or "How I Met Your Mother". It would on Arrested or even Sunny.

That's the brand of humor I'm talking about.

Anchorman's first scene places it squarely into the dry humor category. There's nothing slapstick about that fight. It's taken seriously. All the characters take it seriously.

The very fact that Ron Burgundy can even live in that world and be taken/treated even 50% seriously gives me further evidence.

But I give up. Done arguing. You win.

Are you sure you know what dry humor is? Because I do.

The movie is filled with irony and sarcasm. The essential elements of dry humor.

The forced irony is the biggest problem. It beats you over and over like a baseball bat to the head until you can't take it anymore. It's not even smart humor either.

Unless you're referring to the old guy getting punched in the balls. That wasn't ironic...it was sophomoric. Some people think that's funny though. :what:

i googled dry humor.

here are the first 2 results.

Often referred to as deadpan humor, dry humor is a comedy technique that is characterized by a calm and straightforward delivery by the performer. This is in contrast to such comedy art forms as slapstick or sketch comedy, which often relies upon broad gestures, exaggerated facial expressions, or an emphasized tone or tenor in order to heighten the comic appeal of the joke or remark. Often, dry humor is associated with what some people refer to as highbrow comedy, as the style requires a degree of restraint in order to be effective.

With dry humor, the focus is on the actual words that are used, rather than the use of various devices that call attention or emphasis to parts of the delivery process.

Deadpan is a form of comic delivery in which humor is presented without a change in emotion or body language, usually speaking in a casual, monotone or cantankerous voice and expressing an unflappably calm, archly insincere or artificially grave demeanor, often in spite of the ridiculousness of the subject matter. This delivery is also called dry humor or dry wit;[1] when the intent, but not the presentation, is humorous, blunt, oblique, sarcastic, or apparently unintentional.

are you telling me that describes anchorman and will ferrell's style of comedy in general?

charlie from always sunny is the complete opposite of dry humor.

they're both yelling the jokes at you.

michael from ad is dry. ron swanson is dry. i've only seen bits and pieces of seinfeld but their humor seemed mostly dry.

will ferrell is not.

Thought we are having a conversation? So anyone who disagrees with you is arguing?

Most comedy shows deal with there situations seriously. If that is your definition then three's company and Mr bean uses dry humor. I have not seen anchorman in a while but I do remember the news anchor fight and one dude got chopped in half with a sword. And everyone in the Anchroman world is just as over the top and exaggerated as Ron Bergendy.

I just don't get it y'all.

I can sit through the whole movie and not laugh once. I'm a huge fan of dry humor. I like Arrested Development, Curb, Always Sunny, but I don't get Anchorman. :ohhh:

White people love that shyt. Why? Chewie? Duck? I think y'all are white.

Even the quotables don't do it for me.

I might be the only person on the planet not looking forward to the sequel. :what:

I'm white and I feel the same way about this movie. I chalk it up to most people have a very different sense of humor than I do.

Seriously though most people are just fukking idiots :birdman:
