Yeah, if that was their concern, they could have just paid someone like Flacco in free agency. If it's an emergency situation where you need a QB to step in because Wentz got hurt, you'd much rather trust an experienced veteran over a rookie. That's what they did with Foles and McCown. They're tryna go with this 2nd QB nonsense but they would spend a 2nd round pick on Hurts if they felt Wentz was durable imo. Regardless it was a waste of a pick.
I don't feel confident in Carson staying healthy myself though but theres better ways around this

Lol Hurts is much better than Flacco. Philly needs a good backup QB so the pick makes sense. The Eagles just needed to do a good job with their other picks and so far they haven't. The other 2 picks y'all wasted is what you should be most upset aboutYeah, if that was their concern, they could have just paid someone like Flacco in free agency. Any way you slice it, this was a waste of a 2nd Round pick.
HOWIE ROSEMAN: “We’ve shown how we feel about Carson by our actions, we showed it by the amount of picks we put into him and we showed it by the contract extension and we believe this is a guy to lead us to our next Super Bowl Championship. But for better or worse, we are quarterback developers. We want to be a quarterback factory and we have the right people in place to do that and no team in the National Football League has benefited more from developing quarterbacks than the Philadelphia Eagles. This is who we are.”

If Philly didn't blow their 1st and 3rd round picks then this wouldn't look that bad. They still had plenty of picks to fill their holes and still pick Jalen but they reached on a WR in arguably the deepest WR class ever and the took a 2 year project at best w/ Taylor.
Flacco is just an example here. The point is, I'd rather turn to a veteran who can grasp a system quickly in the event they need to come in during an emergency situation over a rookie who wouldn't even be getting training reps in the offseason. It's a strategy that's worked out pretty well for Philadelphia before. Meanwhile, they could take the 2nd Round pick and actually improve the team so that if the backup has to come in he can either 1) have decent wideouts to throw to, or 2) have a decent secondary that won't blow double digit leads.Lol Hurts is much better than Flacco. Yea that's why they have 8 picks to fill all needs, one of those being backup QB..Brotha I definitely hear what you are saying but I just feel we have quite a number of players and position that need or will need replacing and there was some good value picks in the 2nd round that would have improved the team straight away
I like Jalen Hurts too. What you're saying is also right, in hindsight we should have traded down in the 1st and tried to get back another 2nd or 2, then the pick would have been fine.
Hurts will be the hardest worker on the team it won't take him long to get acclimatedFlacco is just an example here. Hurts hasn't taken a single snap in the NFL, so we don't know how good he'll be at the next level or if he's better than Flacco or not. At least with veterans, we already have an idea how good they'll be, which is what you want when you're looking for insurance. And that's how the Eagles actually operate.
I think the real reason Hurts was taken was that Howie had a high grade on him and wants to flip him down the line for more picks from a QB-needy team.
