It is an amazingly well done series. However, does anyone else feel like they didn't shine any light on "Method Man" as a single? No mention or showing of them filming the video, or really not much at all other than the scene in the studio where Meth is recording the song.

I say this as a non-New Yorker, cause I vividly remember "Method Man" being the hit single that catapulted the album initially. The video/single came out before the album dropped and BET Rap City and Yo! MTV Raps used to play the shyt out of the video prior to the album dropping. Rap City and Yo! never played "Protect Ya Neck"... and if they did, they played it wayyy after the album came out maybe during an episode where they interviewed/featured the Clan.

I thought for sure they would've depicted "Method Man" much more... it was THEE single that blew them up, it was the song that got the most radio play in the beginning and I know I can vouch for myself and many other Wu heads I know... that it was the 1st thing that most of us heard and discovered Wu. It got Source Hip Hop Quotable of the month in '93... "Protect Ya Neck" was the super underground buzz single that got a lot of burn on East Coast underground radio...but "Method Man" is what set things off and had heads looking to cop the album based off of it.

As someone who grew up in that era and witnessed the Wu's ascension, I'm boggled as to why there wasn't much about "Method Man" single/video in this season. It is odd to me. It would be the equivalent of a series about Busta Rhymes' rise as a solo artist, but they only focus on "Everything Remains Raw" being the catalyst and overlooking "Woo Hah"... seriously...

They put early emphasis on Method Man’s popularity but you’ve got to remember that

A). New York was still the “Mecca” of Hip Hop back then and Protect Ya Neck is what got them hot all over NEW YORK

And

B). From a show standpoint it makes more sense to focus on Protect Ya Neck because its a GROUP song and the series is about the GROUP. Showing a solo single blowing up isn’t going to help tell the story about how Raekwon felt being on his last dollar and his moms getting kicked out her apartment. How Ghost had a new baby and two brothers with Muscular Dystrophy and the stress he was dealing with. How RZA had to come up with a beat that fit EIGHT different personalities like a glove. How UGod had to hustle to put food on his table. And so on and so forth. Protect Ya Neck tells that story.

It also makes sense to save the “internationally known” Wutang story for season 3 so we can see the Clan going from rags to riches and experiencing all the culture shock that came from it. PLUS if you want to start touching on jealousy in the group they can do that too through Meth blowing up off Method Man and All I Need. Those would be season 3 stories to tell

this is real. and kind of reflects my one minor complaint about the show. at times it feels like it moves too fast. i think a huge part of that is because the show is from rza's POV, so moments we as fans might be looking forward to aren't prioritized. method man is a perfect example of this.

totally get why they put so much emphasis on protect ya neck. it was the single that put them on the map. but method man put them over the top. first it was his single, which got so big they had to make a second, we'vegotabudgetnow version of the video for MTV (the one that was in color). and then he carried the hook on cream, which was the clan's second real crossover moment.

mef was the star, along with ODB. his stardom was also on occasion the cause of some early friction.

it would be nice to see more of his importance to their success captured. it's definitely there. but not at the level i would expect given how pivotal he was.

Still amazing to see a show so close to something we actually grew up with. Yeah there are some exaggerations but still immortalizes that era for those of us who know everything from the dresscode at the time to how cats moved. Amazing 2nd season imo

Just finished. It was dope. So this season covered about 1.5 year, and now we're at the '94 flood. I do wish they told the true Masta Killa Chessboxin story. They really showed Masta Killa's bald head though. I didn't see his scalp until 20 years later

Next season has to be Meth, Dirty, Rae, GZA...Tical was lost in that flood too. He had to redo the entire thing...quickly to meet Mef's deaadline.

Ghost is the heart of Wu-Tang.
