Y'all wrapped up in Manchin, I want evidence Biden is on the opposite side of him on this issue.

Hell, Biden bff is against getting rid of it too.

I don't care what side Biden is on, I'm not a Biden fanboy. I'm pointing out that if I was president I wouldn't even want to get rid of the filibuster at this moment. Do you remember what happened when the Dems got rid of the judicial filibuster in 2013? It totally fukked them over - all they did was squeak a couple extra justices in, then the Republicans grabbed control the next year and when Trump got into office they used the Dem rule change to fukk over all the courts royally including naming most of the worst, most extremist judges we've seen in our lifetimes with no chance for the slightest pushback. Y'all gonna have to come up with a good explanation why this would be any different.

So long as the Senate demographics heavily favor Republicans, senate rules that protect the minority are going to be needed at least as much by the Dems as the are by the Repubs. Start removing those at your own peril.

I'll continue to vote locally.

I'm not voting for these clowns on the national level if they spend the next year sitting on their hands while these racist laws are passed around the country. The Texas one they're trying to pass in the dead of the night is the most egregious one. You have to register as an election official if you drive more than two people not related to you to the poll - this is a direct attack on black voters. They are cutting polls in black/brown neighborhoods, cutting voting hours so working-class people can't vote, eliminating drive-thru/dropbox voting (Harris County), and give Republican judges sweeping power to reverse election results.

I'm sick of this shyt. I sent these mfers to D.C. to fight for democracy. Biden and the rest of the old guard are failing miserably at that basic task. Their voters are under attack and their response is what exactly? Why should I vote for these imbeciles moving forward if they're unwilling to fight for our basic civil rights when they own the WH, House and Senate. Nah, they deserve to be CRUSHED next year for their inaction.

If Biden doesn't explicitly call for an end to the filibuster and start publicly and privately leaning on his friends in the Senate to do the same, I hope like hell the Dems lose the House and Senate next year and Biden spends his final two years mired in impeachment proceedings. fukk it. :yeshrug:
I cant even be upset at any of this.

Democrats spent the last four years saying that our democracy is under threat and Trump was a direct threat to our norms and demoracy. They shouted catastrophic rhetoric for four years.

Now they are in a position to change things, and actual anti-democracy laws are happening all over the country, and their response has been nothing. I can't hold you for feeling this way. A lot of people feel this way.:hubie:

Where are these people? :dwillhuh:

Kamala didn't even have a top-3 most dedicated fanbase even among fellow 2020 candidates. :usure:

American brehs, looks like the honeymoon is over based on this thread.

Here is a philosophical question. If Biden becomes a strong man like Trump and does things unilaterally, what does that mean? It isn't how American democracy is supposed to work.

Is American democracy dead?

If that's the case do you then have two extremist parties destroying the fabric of the country whenever they are in power?

Does the fabric of America need to be destroyed?

At this point, its obvious that Republicans cant govern at the federal level. The difference between the Biden Administration and the Trump administration is obvioud. Obama vs. Bush administration.

As I write this, watch the democrats get slaughtered in the mid terms :snoop:

At this point my fellow Americans are essentially becoming accelerationists.

Americans don't seem to understand government and political philosophy much (by design). But they do know that "something" is broken in American government and politics.

I wish more people would be on board for the peaceful separation of the US. Turn it into about 3-4 countries and we will be much better off.

Is that even possible?

The countries that want to secede have no real understanding of how the federal government helps them. It would be chaos

No one is asking Biden to be a strong man. Where are you getting this from? :mindblown:

It would take some serious effort and true ubiquitous desire to do so. Unfortunately Republicans and companies are holding the country hostage and states in the South would never let it happen. They want to take us all the way to the deepest pits. It's revenge for the Civil War.

Nah that is what people want him to be. They want Biden to do this Biden to be the legislative, Biden to blah blah. Instead, people let the legislative off way too much. It comes down to it being easier to blame the head of the executive. It doesn't matter if Bernie or AOC or your mama was President - no Democratic president is getting what they want politically without very strong power in the legislative branch. People are letting the legislative branch get away with murder.

I'm seeing it in my own friends too - they want a single man to be the arbiter of all power in this country. We are heading towards dictatorship for sure.

It's dead. Look at what Republican state legislatures are doing all over the country.

The Dems have a small window to legislate and crush these voter suppression efforts and restore the Voting Rights Act of 1965. But they have to get rid of the Senate filibuster. If they don't do anything in the next 6 months on democracy efforts, the USA is truly going to be in a fascistic pathway by end of decade...

And we've had fascism in the USA before... it isn't new

This is fukked to say but how else do you get anything done here without essentially having to be a dictator and wield executive power?

Exactly - it isn't new. It just might be new to a lot of Americans who thought they would never be on the receiving end of it.

I too hoped that American institutions would crush what happened/what's been happening. Unfortunately the fat cats are too comfortable and everyone fears Trumpists now. It's pretty much over.
