Cash? I calculated this for me awhile back. I think it was about $2.5 million.

That includes enough to build my dream house and never have to worry about my spending exceeding interest on investments.

this... if yall use a retirement caluculator... you'll see that this is what is needed. plus factor in inflation.... if rent is $1500/$1800 on average in 2024... in 30-40 years it'll be at least $5k I bet

Is one of the milestones in retirement a paid off house? If the house is paid off, why would you need to rent?

I don’t have a number- having grown up money and food insecure would leave me with extreme fomo during my earning years especially with the cost of my sons education and general needs by the time he’s old enough.

There's plenty of places with cheap houses though, gotta look outside the big cities. I search for houses all day everyday.

I could live off 50k (and have lived off significantly less) but I wouldn't necessarily call it comfortable.
