Man I'm 43, I know what lay-a-way is. :mjlol:

I'm saying you're taking your own personal experiences and making it seem like they were common for everyone.

Built a computer in 1993.

Was on the 'net in the military in 1988.

These are not common activities, at all, back then.

I NEVER stated they were common, though. I was objecting to a statement to the effect that 'no one was using it back then', which is categorically false.

No it isn't "no one" like people are saying but it damn sure wasn't common.

Fred.

It was more 'common' than some are making it out to be, however. I bet even you have some of those AOL CD's somewhere since you're :flabbynsick:.

The fact of the matter is that personal PC's were available since the mid-80's and got even more affordable in the 90's. When the 'Net became widely available, they came down even more.

What? 15 years was 2005. Napster had already came and went by then. People had already moved on from burning cds to putting mp3’s on their ipod.
BREAUGH ALL OF THAT WAS A SMALL
GROUP OF PPL COMPARED
TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC.

HOW OLD ARE YOU
AND WHERE ARE YOU FROM?

I HAD ACCESS TO THE NET
DURING THIS TIME DUE TO
COLLEGE, BUT THE shyt YOURE LISTING
WAS NOT POPPING WITH THE AVERAGE PERSON.

THE INTERNET WAS A SUB CULTURE.

NOW ITS THE CULTURE.

What really gets me is their refusal to at least attempt to learn. :mjlol:

I’ve seen old ppl get irate when asked to do anything dealing with technology. Old lady cussed out a receptionist at my job for asking if she wanted to use a self check-in kiosk so she wouldn’t have to wait in line.

“I don’t want nothing to do with that shyt!!!!” :damn:
Nother old lady was asked if she wanted to sign up for an online health program and real live pointed and yelled “Get them damn computers away from me!!!” :pacspit:

i don’t know breh. I want to agree with you, but my grandmother is 80+ and she didn’t get her first laptop until a 2010ish. My dad had an computer 80s and brought me one in the late 90s. He’s not calling me unless he gets an virus or unless he’s pc died. If your argument was just about boomers and gen x your argument would make since.
My title may have been extreme, i actually am talking about boomers primarily

Boomers started seeing their jobs disappear due to automation, so some of them are just angry at anything technology.

A lot of people don't deal with computers during there everyday. In fact I'd wager most don't...

And those that do, use it like most use a car, basic functions. If you asked your average person to do any kind of work on a car they couldn't, same with computers.

you dont have to use computers to send emails and conduct basic day to day business. You can never in your life work on a car (most people never do) and you will be just fine

My dad is 78 and can’t use a computer. He came to this country in 80 and only had jobs that involved using his hands and he worked a lot of hours per day. And when he needed something done he either did it by foot or me and my sis did it for him.

:yeshrug:
my father got his first computer in 98 and was designing his own websites an flipping them by 01... and I was tech support... :mjpls:

my mother also used to nag me to do everything for her on the computer but she learned.

Only rich people had PCs in the 90s.

and you were using that to play games, something adults were far less likely to do in that time.

:childplease:

I knew plenty of people in my hood who had pcs running windows 95. Granted it wasn't everyone but enough

nah i dont expect 80 year olds to be able to use a computer effectively. but if you're like 50 i think you should have a basic grasp of it but thats the age bracket where most women would have computer skills but a huge chunk of men wouldnt. i feel like the mid 30s into 40s crowd right now is the first where a computer might have been used in school or in the house from a younger age. shyt aint that easy to retain infomation when you're 40.

my mom is mid 50s and i be getting annoyed when she wants me to google things for her. you work on a computer all day and watch youtube on your smart phone but i have to google shyt for you? :pachaha:

... so some of the newbies gathered around my truck in the parking lot
They were busy talking so i took notes (so as not to interrupt.. Letting them brainstorm their plans)
At the end, i was like "let me transcribe this.. I'll put it as a note in your line group
They were like " oh that's not necessary" and just wanted to take pictures of the paper with their phones
I was like "well, let me transcribe it"
And they laughed me off.. so i was like "go ahead then :troll:"

It took three days before one of them contacted me..
Sheepish like "Uh, o_t, i cant read your handwriting"
Right, check your line notes.. I already transcribed it for you

eventually they realized it wasnt merely bad handwriting or senility :flabbynsick:
I guess "Gregg Notehand" is on par with encryption these days
