nah the internet as you know it and use it was not available to the general public in 1980. stop acting like it was. :mjtf:

It was the late-80's/early-90's when Internet access was available privately, albeit very limited. Those people working in/for the Federal Gov't had been using it for almost 20 years by then.

My mother was on the 'Net before I was born.

And just call them out for what they are? Stupid as fukk.

People been sending emails and surfing the web for 40 years now. If you 80 years old that's half your damn life. I'd say we basically got maybe 10 more years before not knowing how to send an email is equal to not knowing how to read or write your own name.
Just cause something been around awhile doesnt mean it was accessible to most til later. Internet didnt really be a house hold thing until 15-20 years ago at best, by then your example was already in their 60s, considered senior citizens..

Also, if PC's weren't widely available and affordable in the 90's, then why did AOL send out all those damned 'Free Internet' CD's that allowed me (and many others) to play Doom on a dial-up connection back in 1995 as long as no one else was on the phone?

Computers werent even common in the 90s how the fukk they were common in 1980 :mjlol: you sound retarded

Computers WERE common in the 80's to Federal employees. My mother used one at Ft. Monmouth.

They became 'affordable' and common in the private sector since about 1984. I guess none of y'all know about the Commodore 64 which is what all the 'rich kids' were playing while us 'poor kids' had to make-do with the Atari 2600.

Because this is a new generation of old people. These aren't the same 60 and 70 year olds as the ones back in the Y2K days. They was in their 30s when this shyt took off. Thats like me 30 years from now trying to say i don't understand how alexa works or how to use siri. these aren't the world war 2 vets that grew up in the great depression anymore. these are baby boomers

What? 15 years was 2005. Napster had already came and went by then. People had already moved on from burning cds to putting mp3’s on their ipod.

These computer illiterate people are almost literally keeping the low level IT and Computer repair business afloat instead of complaining about them you should ask yourself 'how can I monetize that to my benefit?'

I'm not saying people were sending out tweets and posting internet memes in 1982. I'm just saying you young enough even at 80 today to have did some shyt that would help bridge to gap enough to at least be able to figure out how send an email in 2020 or make a purchase online.

i don’t know breh. I want to agree with you, but my grandmother is 80+ and she didn’t get her first laptop until a 2010ish. My dad had an computer 80s and brought me one in the late 90s. He’s not calling me unless he gets an virus or unless he’s pc died. If your argument was just about boomers and gen x your argument would make since.

No. I didn't HAVE to, but why pay for a case/motherboard/keyboard/monitor when they're sitting on the curb? All I had to buy was a processor, RAM, and mouse.

Had I bought everything, it would have cost about $500-$600. Luckily, they left the hard drive, all 300 mb of it, in the case with a full version of Windows 3.1.

$600 adjusted for inflation is like $1,100 man.

The average person in 1993 was not:

1. Able to build a computer.

2. Willing to throw $1,100 at a computer brand new.

So, no offense....kinda confused as to what you're saying here. You're basically proving his point.

I'll get on my :flabbynsick: rant on how if its not the latest app to communicate to your friends (ie modern age telephone), there's a lot of people, young and old, who are computer illiterate.

But I do have concerns about everything being automated. I have to take care of a lot of my mom's bills and such, because talking to a human is non-existent. And even I get tripped up trying to set and remember passwords, that each need to be changed every 12 minutes :stopitslime:. I have to do this when I'm 65?

What I'm saying is that if you wanted one, you could get one and you didn't have to have a lot of money. Hell, cats are buying $1800 phones by making payments, now. That type of thing existed back then as well. It was called 'Lay-Away'. So, yeah, the average person could get a PC and didn't have to be rich.

Man I'm 43, I know what lay-a-way is. :mjlol:

I'm saying you're taking your own personal experiences and making it seem like they were common for everyone.

Built a computer in 1993.

Was on the 'net in the military in 1988.

These are not common activities, at all, back then.

Like ol boy above pointed out only 35% of America owned a PC in 1997.

In 1990? 15%

So saying you built a PC in 1993....you were in the extreme minority.

No it isn't "no one" like people are saying but it damn sure wasn't common.

Fred.
