Playing football was how I learned... There are certain things that are easier to grasp when you've played... For example, on a given defensive play, based on the coverage and play call, who has outside "force"? The DE, OLB, SS, or CB....

Here's the other thing....

Vick doesn't understand how to read schemes or, more likely, his BRAIN doesn't process it fast enough once he's in realtime game speed. Like, I'm sure he can read it pre-coverage, but he goes through his progressions like he's at ShopRite pickin' out loaves of bread, ol' nonchalant ass nikka.

So to COUNTER that, why not just LET HIM RUN, then? Hell, if he gon' get injured, then so be it. But having him stand in the pocket week after week and fail to timely make his reads and ultimately get popped play after play, isn't exactly a viable alternative, my G's.....if he's gon' get hurt, it might as well be making a damn play, not standing like a sitting duck out that hoe. :rudy:

Not to sound cocky, but I'd bet that I know more than most ppl on this site. I read up on it as much as possible, and stay studying shyt. It's what makes listening to most of these ppl calling the games so hard, cause for the most part they have no clue.

And FYI, you can't determine if it's man or zone by sending someone in motion. That's straight Madden shyt.

I got an understanding for it by watching it on tv. But I really learned more about it when I started playing madden and seeing what certain plays/coverages looked like and did. The one thing I'm completely lost on is the line game. All these different point stances and shyt I don't really get that.

He's absolutely the best ever in that regard. This guy knows where EVERYBODY is on the field, I question whether a QB has ever existed who goes through his progressions as rapidly and with such ease.

Yep. Maybe Marino?

Arguably.

Marino certainly had the quicker release, that's for sure.

Then again, not sure Marino faced the type of zone coverages (e.g., where the lineman drops into coverage), disguised blitzes and the like that Peyton has faced in his career....

I learned by playing offense and defense in high school and defense in college. Playing linebacker, you have to know the formations and schemes because most of the time you are responsible for making calls and adjustments. Plus having to spend time in the film room

I guess that's why I am so good at Madden bc I understand what plays can beat coverages :manny:

He doesn't understand, because that area of the game was always plan Z (basically not taught to him at all) to the quick fix plan B - using his legs. Himself and the majority of his coaches share the blame for that.

"Back when I was involved in those activities, I may have become more dedicated to the deep study of dogs than I was to my Falcons playbook. [...] I became better at reading dogs than reading defenses. That's just so sad to say right now, because I put more time and effort into trying to master that pursuit than my own profession."

Formations don't really matter like they do on Madden because the real NFL is all about quickness on the line of scrimmage, and substitutions rotations in real life.

The overall speed of the league is always going to catch up to any fancy scheme that can be run.

Barry Sander had his career because he had field vision, speed acceleration, amazing balance, and GREAT STAMINA. BARRY SANDERS RARELY USED A FULL BACK HE WORKED OUT OF A ONE-BACK FORMATION. Had a 2000 yd season and retired.

Now Chris Johnson might be a world class track speed but he cannot get loose for yards after contact runs anymore from a SINGLE BACK SET. Titans O-Line got away with chop/trap blocks when he got his 2000 yd season.

Ladainlian had Lorenzo Neal, once Neal retired his career slowed down after his 2000 yd season. Darren Sproles was really short and really fast and could break out big runs with no contact from a SINGLE BACK in college days, had a 2000 yd season in KState.

Jamal Lewis had good down field blocking and wound up with 2000 yd season, and fell completely off after that. Same with Ahman Green, Edgerrin, Portis, etc.

Jerry had 1950 yd season as a WR, and he was an excellent route runner and great hands. 49ers was a West Coast Offense with Steve Young quick routes against some slow ass secondary in the old NFC West.

Scheme don't matter in NFL, having a deep rotation of LB, D-Line to BLITZ will cancel out. This is why the Nebraska option isn't even dominate college ball like it used to in the 90's.

I think he does understand but he fits into that Mike Tyson saying " Everybody got a plan until they get hit in the mouth"

And I also think he second guesses himself too much causing him to be a lil hesitant. He seems like he doesn't trust his teammates to be in the right spot or protect him
