Not to sound cocky, but I'd bet that I know more than most ppl on this site. I read up on it as much as possible, and stay studying shyt. It's what makes listening to most of these ppl calling the games so hard, cause for the most part they have no clue.

And FYI, you can't determine if it's man or zone by sending someone in motion. That's straight Madden shyt.

No it isn't, motion has been implemented for this very reason for years.

just cause somebody isn't mirroring/trailing your every move doesn't mean that subtle things like spacing, specific calls from a player, positioning and weight shifts aren indicators of man/zone.

How can you enjoy the game without understanding this shyt?

I've always focused more on the QB position. It's amazing to me how some guys can hit their 4th read with all kinds of chaos around them.

You can learn a ton about football through playing Madden. Madden is how I even got into the NFL.

It's a skill that clearly separates the better QB's in the league and shows in a lot of the QB's who have become busts.

Tangent:

It's one of the reasons Tom Brady was ever even given the chance to become what he did. Once his knee got blown out, he's become overtly aware of 'perceived' pressure and leaves his spots SO much sooner than he used to.

He's obviously still an excellent QB, but his pocket feel and ability to detach from the chance of getting hit and focus instead on his reads and make the right decision was extremely impressive before the knee went out.

I learned from playing little league and high school ball.

Refined it playing Madden for years.

Re-refined it watching shows like NFL Matchup and NFL Playbook.

Played football up through college. Was obsessed with the game as a jit. Somehow came across a rule book, and studied it; knew all penalties and their signals from a refs perspective. The game has evolved since I was a kid though, and it seems like there's new rules at the various levels every year. NFL is nearly unwatchable with all the penalties now a days... Like the Unsportsmanlike Conduct on Mark Barron last week for example:

At any level except the NFL circa 2012, this is a clean tackle. The pussification of the sport is ruining the NFL, but I digress.

But yeah, I'm sure the casual football fan really has no idea what's going on on the field, other than who has the ball, and who's winning. It gets very complex at the NFL level.

I'm amazed at how many people listed Madden as to how they learned schemes and formations. I personally think the best way to learn is watching actual games and having played organized ball.

Brady has had the luxury of a great line, but still....the great QB's just know when to get rid of the ball. Whereas the bad ones will look at the pass rush and bail immediately.

Going back to reads. This is why I think Peyton is a frigging mastermind. This dude will hit his 5th read if he needs to. It's pretty crazy. Brady, Brees, Rodgers and a few others are guys that can slide around in the pocket and hit 3rd, 4th reads.

I just can't fukk with QB's who struggle to go through their progressions, I don't care how good their stats look.

He's absolutely the best ever in that regard. This guy knows where EVERYBODY is on the field, I question whether a QB has ever existed who goes through his progressions as rapidly and with such ease.
