Vol. 2 is Jay's most street album not named Reasonable Doubt?!
Vol. 2's production was glossy as fukk. Other than the lyrics and subject matter, I wouldn't consider that Jay's most street album not named Reasonable Doubt, not when it comes to the sound of that album.
Vol. 1 only had three club records; "Sunshine", "I Know What Girls Like" and "Who You Witt II". Well, four if you count "The City Is Mine".
Vol. 1 had tons of street records on it:
"A Million and One"
"Imaginary Player"
"Streets Is Watching"
"Rap Game/Crack Game"
"Friend Or Foe 98'
"Where I'm From"
"Real nikkaz"
"Face Off"
The overall sound of Vol. 1 was a lot more street than it got credit for. I think the "Sunshine" single just built this preconceived notion that the album was Pop music.
But Jay came back with a very street album with Vol. 1.
Even "You Must Love Me" for as soulful as it is, it had a deep rooted street sound to it.
Vol. 2 had much more club records on it.
