It was arguably his best album

It just had a few stinkers on it

Vol. 1 is his second best album behind Reasonable Doubt in my opinion. Vol. 1 is an album that I've come to like more with time.

Back in the day I thought Vol. 1 was alright but I didn't really come around to appreciating the album until a couple of years ago after going back and listening to it.

Vol 2 is Jay most street album not named Reasonable Doubt

vol 1 is amazing. Just one too many of clubby records

Vol. 2 is Jay's most street album not named Reasonable Doubt?! :dwillhuh:

Vol. 2's production was glossy as fukk. Other than the lyrics and subject matter, I wouldn't consider that Jay's most street album not named Reasonable Doubt, not when it comes to the sound of that album.

Vol. 1 only had three club records; "Sunshine", "I Know What Girls Like" and "Who You Witt II". Well, four if you count "The City Is Mine".

Vol. 1 had tons of street records on it:

"A Million and One"
"Imaginary Player"
"Streets Is Watching"
"Rap Game/Crack Game"
"Friend Or Foe 98'
"Where I'm From"
"Real nikkaz"
"Face Off"

The overall sound of Vol. 1 was a lot more street than it got credit for. I think the "Sunshine" single just built this preconceived notion that the album was Pop music.

But Jay came back with a very street album with Vol. 1.

Even "You Must Love Me" for as soulful as it is, it had a deep rooted street sound to it.

Vol. 2 had much more club records on it.

You right, Hard Knock Life should have gotten 5 :yeshrug:

Volume 3 is by far Jay worst album and the shyt ain't close. He tried to mix everything in there, doing songs for every coast but the shyt ain't work at all.

Magna Carta is his worst album followed by BP2. Volume 3, while uneven, has some FIRE joints on there

I’m talking content

can I get a... is probably the only clubby record

hard knock life (content)
If I should die
Money cash hoes
Ride or die
R Dogs
It’s like that
Coming of Age
Jigga what
Paper chase

adding bonus records like it’s Alright & Money Ain’t don’t count

nikkas don’t listen to lyrics if they can’t tell these are street records. It’s not even a r&b feature on this album or any real singing on vol 2

Kingdom Come was nice as hell...

Vol. 3 had like 6 good songs to me...the rest were just average...

I’ll say this, Vol 1 going into the Streets Is Watching soundtrack, then setting the table for Vol 2 is my favorite Jay era. Cus although I do agree Vol 1 is severely underrated, it didn’t hit the mark in real time. But to see Jay comeback with the Streets Is Watching movie and soundtrack to get the streets back on his side, then seeing the monster success of Vol 2 was dope to watch in real time.
